It's getting close to that time again. I'm not going to be exhibiting this year, but I'm thinking seriously about making the trip just to hang out and network. Anyone here planning to be there?

I actually went there for a field trip when I was in Middle School, but now I live about 20 minutes away from the Chicago location lol

I’ll be there for the first time, I’m pretty pumped. I got a little table space at Delicious Audio’s stompbox booth, and will have a pair of pedalboards to play with. I’m Discomfort Designs.
Since it’s my first time there, I’m all ears if any of you wonderful people have NAMM/Anaheim/pedalboard/general suggestions or ideas. Also, it’d be very cool to meet if you can drop by the booth.

Wear comfortable shoes, stay hydrated. When I had a booth I brought a mini fridge with me and it was the best decision I made. My other piece of advice is have a friend that can watch the booth so you can have bathroom breaks and food breaks, but I assume that will be easier with the delicious audio booth.
Unfortunately it doesn't look like I'm going to be there. I had been considering for a while that if I could find someone to go halvsies on a hotel room I can make the rest of the expenses work to get myself there, but I have since spent a bunch of money that would have otherwise been a travel budget. So as lovely as it is to go to southern California in the middle of the winter, I'll be staying home and freezing.

I have had friends AirBnB before with some success. Also, there are places that area further away, 15-20 minute drive, that are usually very reasonable BUT you then have to pay crazy prices for parking or an uber.
I was visiting a client, but was late one day and there was zero reasonable parking so had to pay $80 at a hotel nearby. It was sketchy too, they wouldn't give a receipt for me to expense it. Took a picture of the sign, accountant was NOT happy about that!

Reiterating what vigilante said:
Comfortable shoes. If they are new, break them in before the show.
Water. Lots of it. Talking for days on end will get you quick.
Adding to it:
Ibuprofen. The tradeshow floor is literally the worst. I swear they use special, more uncomfortable concrete flooring.
Snacks.
Ear plugs. When walking the floor, I wear them because when I don't some jackwagon always blasts me with an amp or cymbal crash 10 inches from my head.
Walk the floor. There is a ton to see, so see it. I am usually there visiting past clients and people I know. So may take trip or 2 to catch them. Great way to network as well.
Sanitizer. NAMMthrax is real, even before Covid. I came home with some sort of sniffles each and every year.

Scout the nightly after show music, there are some great acts that are easy to miss out on. Some of it takes special badging, so it's better to have that info well in advance. And some of those shows are pretty far away from the Convention Center, like Huntington Beach or even in LA. But even a few of the hotels right there have excellent shows going on, often for free.
And then of course there are plenty of booths with great music going on during show hours, both announced and unannounced. Do the deep dives on Facebook, the NAMM website, etc.

Also - What booth? I will make sure to send friends your way.
That said, they could end up asking questions like if you use free range organic transistors.

It’s the Delicious Audio booth, I guess it’s near EHX and Walrus… that’s all I know about the location so far.

I always enjoyed swinging by there and checking out the cool stuff people are doing. I'm always tempted to jump in, I get the Delicious Audio's emails about all the shows, but I've never done it.

Bring deodorant and a toothbrush as well. They have the little one use toothbrushes, they are perfect.
I have been chatting up with someone at a booth and they just smelled bad, really tarnished the brand.

Oh yeah, I kept a bowl of mints at my booth at my wife's suggestion, and was extremely grateful that I did.

Well I changed my mind, looks like I will be at NAMM this year, just not the whole time. I'll definitely be swinging by the DeliciousAudio booth, I'll be sure to bother @justin23000

I completely forgot about Wood Wire Volts, this year is their second year doing it and I had wanted to check it out last year but didn't make it out that way. I'm not sure I'll have time this year since my trip is being cut short by family commitments at home, but I'm going to try to shuffle my schedule around so I can sneak into the Thursday session of Wood Wire Volts and see what it's like.
