Art for Art’s Sake: Sharing artwork and WIPs

Whatever you do, have fun with it. Try stuff.

If/when you get to do a color film class, look into expired film stock; you get some crazy and/or cool color shift. This one isn't retouched. I had some Fujicolor Superia Reala from my grandfather which would shift very magenta, giving most normal things a sort of '70s BROWN, but skies would be incredibly vivid.

Back before AI, I used to be a graphic designer and illustrator. For a while I dipped into portraits and caricatures, painted digitally with a tablet and stylus

But I also did more stylized portraits. These cards were a personal project that became a real product when Nick Offerman's assistant decided to print them as gadgets for the cast and crew and I got one deck too.

This led to an art director from Wired contacting me to work for the magazine but I onyl got the email months later and nothing ever happened and eventually I hung up the stylus and became an English teacher.

I've been reluctant to design and illustrate ever since. I'd love to design art for pedals but the only way to have enclosures printed is through Tayda and the massive ballache of international shipping and customs clearance. I can't even find encloures in Europe. My last Musikding order incuded one white 125B and it was shipped without it because it was out of stock. That's two of the reasons why I stopped making pedals.

I hope you find the fun/love for that again, you've got a gift!

You certainly have a gift
Has anyone looked into Altinkaya for UV printing in the EU? They're in Turkey.

There's also www.cncdesign.co/ in Finland, I think.
And frontpanels.de which may or may not do pedals. Seen them mentioned on groupDIY a few times

Great work, @andare!
Is there a tablet you would recommend for illustration?

Every time I think about trying one, I get overwhelmed by the options & decide to stick with paper + scanner for another few months.

I used a large Intuos 3. I don't recommend it. Too large and you have to look at the monitor but draw on your desk. The coordination is weird. If you can afford it, get a Cintiq, which is a tablet with a screen you draw on. But I know artists nowadays use procreate on an iPad with a pressure-sensitive Apple pencil. Honestly I'm not up to date.

Thanks for the input, @andare-
The quality of your illustrations led me to assume you were using one of the newer tablets with a screen!

These Cintiq models look really intuitive.
I've attempted using an older Bamboo tablet that was passed down to me but the coordination is indeed weird and I never settled into it.

I wish I could've afforded a Cintiq. That was over 10 years ago. But Looking at the prices, I still can't afford one :)

Look...

I'm an awful artist. I doodle stick figures, poorly.

But stickwife, on the other hand, is pretty great.

Not sure who that man in the picture is. Might have to beat up the handsome son of a bitch if I ever meet him.

Ah, and another one.

I've been...ever so slowly...piecing together a rock opera. Metal opera. Melodic death metal opera.

It's going to be about Penguins. Cute, cuddly, adorable, murderous Penguins out for revenge on humankind.

It's gonna be called "Unhappy Feet".

She's been slowly working on a few pieces to go with it. This one's the furthest along.
