Best DC jacks and mounting procedure

i thought about it just a little harder and now i get why all of these have plastic exteriors. i thought the metal ones looked so great next to the input and output jacks, but... yeah, positive sleeve. makes sense.

I have had a lot of success with the Tayda ones @Feral Feline suggests.

I make these washers on the 3d printer to make everything look flush.

I used the initial jack on this and used a tip positive adapter with it. It seems to work fine I’m not sure why it isn’t the norm. If someone knows fill us in.

I believe centre-negative became the standard for guitar pedals because it made it easier to automatically switch the battery off when the DC jack was plugged in. now that batteries are practically obsolete in guitar pedals it doesn't make a lot of sense anymore, but it's the standard now and we all need to live with it :/

I use different power jacks depending on the build and what I have available. When I use the inside mount ones, instead of soldering the terminals of the power jack to the PCB with a piece of wire, I use electronics power/battery snap plugs. That way I can remove the board from the enclosure without having to desolder the power jack. I got a pack 30 pairs of the connector plugs for like $8 on Amazon.

I'll sometimes use jst connectors with headers for vendors that don't put the LED between the DC pads. Really just for stuff I think I may rework later though. Becoming rarer. But I dig the 2 cables. Never occurred to me.
I got 100 connectors and headers on Ali for the price of a Coke...

I just always assume it’s going to have to come out cause somehow I manage to forget something, or make a slight error or miscalculation. Maybe one day I’ll get to where you are, and I’ll get it right the first time more often than not. Either way right now the way I work, I don’t do enclosure art until after I build the pedal because I want to play the pedal and let the pedal tell me what the art should be. That’s code for I procrastinate and need to take the guts out of the pedal days, weeks, or months later when I finally get around to doing the enclosure art. Haha

Oh no no no
I don't get it right the first time. :ROFLMAO:
Well. Sometimes.
I just test it before any jacks get soldered on.

*No actual testing in place here. Just threw the bits together because picture/1000 words

I should really make a test rig like this. It would really make troubleshooting so much easier. Then I would probably only use JST connectors on things I know I'd need to take out later.
