Boss cs1 effect works, led lights when switch is pushed but turns off when released. Effect stays on

As stated above a friend brought me his old cs1. This runs off the aca adapter. Using either a battery or 12v adapter the led lights up when you push the switch. Whether you are turning the effect on or off. Soon as you release the switch it turns back off. The effect turns on and off as normal. I haven’t even opened it up yet, but looking at the Schematic imma bit stumped as to what would cause this, hoping someone might have an idea.

How old is this CS-1? On early boss effects, the led does not stay on. It’s a literal “check” light and only illuminates when the foot switch is depressed. If this CS-1 was manufactured in 1978 like the service notes you linked, this is normal behavior.

Up until the early 80s this was common like @blackhatboojum said. Those early boss pedals also were notorious for tone suck with less than ideal buffers.
