Can a Mini Rotary Switch (1P8T) be wired to PCB instead of mounted?

So I've never worked with a rotary switch. Long story short I didn't measure my enclosure drill outs correctly and my rotary is in the way of my jack.

I was wondering if I could wire it in instead of mounting directly into the pcb to save some room. I noticed there's a little tab on the switch and was wondering if that was like some sort of ground.

Sure.

There are eights outer pins (each throw of the switch) and a center common pin.

Just wire it up pin-for-pin to the PCB and it'll work fine.
