I got these finished last weeks and am very happy with both of them. In some respects, the Sandspur is like a higher gain version of the Chop Shop with the Sag and Sundial having a similar function.
Sandspur:
I used BC109B and Amperex A104 transistors for this. I ended up biasing it by ear with the Sundial in the middle. This gives be a big range of sounds, from a smoother/warmer fuzz to more spitty staccato fuzz and it cleans up really nicely with the guitar's volume knob.
Chop Shop:
I really like this and can see why it's so popular. This thread put the pedal on my radar, and what a great find it was. The build was fairly straightforward except for some trouble with the bias. I like this with the sag knob on the higher sound, to get that gritty/throating low overdrive thing. This sounds great as an edge of break-up drive, but also sounds great with more drive. Like the sandspur, it cleans up nicely with the guitar volume. I love the Tayda Winked Silver, and think it looks great. I anticipate this will stay on my board for quite a while.
