Cobalt (Boss BD-2) build report

Here’s my build of the Cobalt pedal kit, which is a Boss BD-2 clone.

I purchased the PCB from Das Musikding and the components from various places. I had to use a few tantalum caps over my preferred polybox ones as I couldn’t find them in the necessary values.

The laser engraved faceplate is my own design, made by Tweakable Parts.

Cheers. Tweakable Parts are very reasonably priced and their faceplates look really professional. They also have a good stock of knobs and components. I’ll definitely be using them again.

That is some beautiful wiring. Love the faceplate! But how does she sound? Did you do any of the typical BD-2 mods?

It sounds pretty good, but I don’t have an original to compare to unfortunately. I toyed with the idea of doing the mods, but ended up going completely stock. To be honest, I built this one as a bit of an experiment, just to see how the faceplate worked out. I‘ll probably ended up selling it and the Uber Drive (SD1) clone that I built at the same time.
