ETA on hydra delay chips?

Wanna build a hydra, but the fv-1s are outta stock. Any ETA? Should I hold tight or will it be long enough to move on to other projects?

Thanks

I’ll spring for the pre-soldered ones if @Robert has em, but if you’re in a hurry and don’t mind the job SBP has them.

Not saying you shouldn’t wait, you absolutely should. Those fv-1 are tricky if you’re not used to smd. That being said learning how to solder smd should be on your to do list. With a lot of transistors getting harder to find in through hole form smd is inevitable. I recommend you search for a smd practice board on eBay or Amazon to try it. They are cheap and let you get your feet wet.

You could always take a leap of faith and solder one yourself. Due to their larger size FV-1s are easy to solder. I've done 4 or 5 myself over the years and it worked first try. I used the drag soldering technique similar to what's show in this video:

I use flux from chipquik (I've had success with both their SMD291 and RMA591 tacky fluxes) and a 2.4mm chisel tip on my iron at around 365C. If I over-apply too much solder and have bridging it cleans up easy with either more flux/drag soldering on a clean tip OR some good quality solder braid depend on how much you over-do it.

BTW the Hydra is my favorite FV-1 project. It has a permanent place on my pedal board. Well worth the effort!
