Exceptional Instrumentals

My "worst possible cover versions" thread turned out to be a lot of fun (and very, very painful) so figured I'd give this a go. The first three happen to be from the 70's, but there's good stuff from every era. Please share some gems! At very least I'll post some instrumentals you might enjoy. Here's a few to start.

Lô Borges - Toda Essa Água. Brazil, 1972. Eerie and beautiful.

Eddie Hazel - Lampoc Boogie. USA, 1977. Uses CSNY's Carry On as a platform for some unmistakably Hazel guitar gymnastics.

Özdemir Erdoğan - Uzun İnce Bir Yoldayım. Turkey, 1978. Nice interplay between instruments, moody and understated.

"Instrumental" leaves the door wide open...

Here's a couple of my faves

Link Wray sounding threatening, mean even — yet in a major key!

Oscar... can't get much better than this.

Oh... hang on a tick...

Okay, a trio of favourites...

Han's Kessel-run-bragging has nothing, NOTHING ...

... on Barney's runs:

Peterson and Pedersen = sublime.

Had to throw in something Peterson & Co for the guitarists on the forum, and Kessel's a fave.

Ooh, but Ed Bickert...

NOW just LOOK at what you've started...

I think I spend more time listening to instrumental music than music with vocals. I’ll skip classical and jazz, otherwise I’d never finish this post.

Oh, where to start. How about Jack Bruce’s most excellent solo over the title track of Frank Zappa’s Apostrophe

Then let’s skip a few decades of releases. But this doesn’t skip ahead sonically. Retro soundtrack vibes from Grails.

And before I step aside, something more recent. "Tres Hermanos" by Mexico’s Hermanos Gutiérrez. Very chill, yet captivating.

Nat King Cole was no slouch--andI live under a rock so I don't know if he's necessarily underrated--but Oscar Moore was a damn acrobatic accompanist. Before the ghouls turned him into a pop crooner, the "King Cole Trio" were bangers. Their jump numbers still hit the spot for me. A tiny taste from what pops up on the internet:

Not a fan of jazz or instrumentals in general (the ones Betty posted were pretty good though), but I thought I'd share the one I do like:

Edit: Forgot these two, do they count?

My kids love Meglovania, I’ve heard that so many times!

I had a cassette of the Nat King Cole trio that I played until it started warbling.

I'm not afraid to post some classical up in here. There are only a handful of things that I feel it was truly an honor to have played. This is one of them.

Way too many. Here's some:

One of Frank's many masterpieces

This is badass

IMHO the greatest theme of all time from an absolute classic. Here's the opening scene

Speaking of opening scenes, how about this, Quentin Tarantino? The theme is incredible

More badass Italian film music. This makes me want to buy a classical guitar and play it between my legs with one foot elevated like a dork

If you play bass, this is a must listen
