Informant problems

I just built an informant. I used the buffered wiring. The LED lights, I get audio with the effect on and in bypass. The problem is that the sound is muffled and rough. hard to describe, it doesn’t sound right. I used a TC1044 and set the jumper on the back of the board.

Informant problems?

Tried waterboarding?

You'll need to post clear well-lit pics of both sides of your board, or it's just shooting in the dark.

Checking with the multimeter I see:

  • IC1
    • 1: 8.8v
    • 2: 8.8v
    • 3: 7.2v
    • 4: 17.0v <- !
    • 5: 16.6v
    • 6: 16.6v
    • 7: 16.6v
    • 8: 17.8v
  • IC2
    • 1: 8.9v
    • 2: 8.9v
    • 3: 7.3v
    • 4: 0.0v
    • 5: 7.3v
    • 6: 8.9v
    • 7: 8.9v
    • 8: 17.8v
  • IC100
    • 1: 9.2v
    • 2: 4.9v
    • 3: 0.0v
    • 4: 0.1v
    • 5: 0.4v
    • 6: 4.3v
    • 7:5.9v
    • 8: 9.2v

I feel like IC1 pin 4 is a problem, shouldn’t this be 0v? 17v seems way off. With 18v at pin 8 and 0v at pin 4 with vref of 7.3v on pin 3. IC2 looks good.

I’m not sure what to expect for the charge pump but I’m getting reasonable voltages almost everywhere else and could the input power on pin 8 of both op-amps so I’m guessing this is okay.

My hypothesis has born fruit! I used the multimeter to measure continuity from pin 4 of IC1 to ground and this failed! Pin 4 was definitely the problem. Usual operator error, I had forgotten to solder that pin! Couple minutes with the soldering iron and we’re rocking!
