Jan Ray has two ICs?

I got a Vermuram Jan Ray for repair. No sound when engaged. What is the other IC and no square pad? Is that a trick component?

Well every schematic I've seen for a janray it's just one IC a LM1458.

I believe those are four layer boards with the traces embedded in the middle.

Is it possible those are four diodes (or other axial components) arranged in a pattern that looks like an IC footprint?
