I'm confused. If the compress control is the ratio, then why is adding a blend control and not putting an input level or threshold control?
I wouldn't mind if he changed the classic 1176 fixed threshold topology, but missing that control all together?
 
IF this is actually following 1176 use, I'm guessing the input level is totally up to you to control pre pedal. But the sample didn't really feel like a 1176 to me at all. Maybe he limited the actual attack and release times to only a portion of the original because I never really heard it "pump" nor slow to recover. Of course, Brian's sudo-chicken pickin doesn't really lend itself to that either. Would be interested to hear it on bass with some sustain. Without the constant knob sweeps.
