You might want to look for a Fairchild or RCA 4049. They have a lot less hiss than the ones TI is making now. Not easy to find, they've been out of production for many years.

I always forget I built one of these on vero years back. I should bust it out more often as it's a great pedal. I also have a half-finished ROG Double D, which I recall being a similar design.

They're SMD only, but I've been meaning for a while to try OnSemi's 14049UB. Been a while, but I remember rumors they were less hissy.
