My First Semi-Original Pedal - The Dimetrodon Distortion

I'm going to call this a "hybrid" pedal as it takes an existing pedal and modifies it with a piece of another pedal. The Dimetrodon Distortion as originally envisioned was going to take the '80 MXR Distortion+ and mate it to a BMP Tone Stack. I worked up the first prototype using the Effects Layouts boards for both, but then found the Drivestortion project which gave me even more range - so now I'm making up more using that board (which was cheap enough to buy a few for experimentation) to see how it goes.

The Drivestortion project (populated below) is set up with a modular layout that allows you to build six different versions of the Distortion+ base circuit. Couple that with the BMP tone stack (also with six versions) and you have a total of 36 different flavors in one distortion pedal (take that Baskin Robbins!)

I did have a couple of issues on the first prototype build using the Distortion+ V2 layout - there were some lingering typos on the drawings and I hadn't read all of the comments ahead of time. That means I don't have any post-board population photos of the first prototype until after they were installed into the enclosure (below). However, the photo below shows the photo above shows the reason that we prototype! First my wiring is a bit of a dog's breakfast because I didn't know exactly how everything was going to line up. Second, it seems as if I reversed which side the tone knob should be on. Fortunately both boards are small and I was able to angle everything into the enclosure without bumping up against any of the jacks.

For the enclosure front - it's still very much in the Pete Cornish Tribute vibe, but I'm planning on having more original artwork if/when I'm able to do more of these...

I'd be concerned with the volume loss of the BMP tonestack... Have you thought about adding a little boost for gain recovery at the end or before the tonestack? Could be anything, like an LPB1 or SHO or another little op amp boost.

Effects Layouts has two versions of the tone stack including one with the BMP gain recovery stage. I used the one with gain recovery and you don't get any volume loss as far as I can tell...
