New project stuff maybe?

That 1590DD layout is great — I like the extra room between pots and footswitches (really helps when you stomp with 13s).

Welp, bad news on this one unfortunately. I finished soldering it up just before 1AM so I didn't have time to look at debugging, but this one is a no-go. Both channels are very quiet, clean has to be absolutely dimed to even be audible. Gain channel seems to be missing all of the low-end, sounds like it's coming through a landline. Gain channel can get loud enough to be audible, but it oscillates with gain or volume above noon.

I'll pass it back to Jeff to take a look at, but the oscillation alone is a dealbreaker for me. The whole purpose of the 6-layer board was to keep the traces spread out enough to avoid oscillation, and if that doesn't work then the chances are good that it's not a viable pedal option. 4-layer PCBs are a modest price jump over 2-layer, but 6-layer gets into "high-precision" territory at JLC so the price jump there is already huge. Adding more layers for stability would make it even more prohibitively expensive.

If Jeff wants to throw money at this for another spin it's up to him, but I'm afraid I'm not in a position to throw more money at this one when I have my own R&D stuff to fund.

That's a bummer. I'm surprised the 6 layer board had oscillation issues. Like you said, I'd assume it was quieter.

I had a talk with Jeff, he's going to take a look and see if he can pinpoint any errors in the design, but he agrees the oscillations are problematic given the 6-layer board.

Also I told him he should join the forum, he said he already has an account and just hasn't posted anywhere. I'll see if I can talk him into jumping in and saying hello.

Certainly seems like checking out the board is a good idea since the oscillations were not the only issue given the low signal levels you mentioned. Crossing my fingers those two things might be related.

That's because I don't use social media while I'm at work, loser.

Hi everyone, I'm Jeff. I'm going to sit down with a bag of chips and a laptop and try to track down what's happening on the Uberschall board. Nate, I might ask you to bring me your build so I can see if you did anything wrong.

But yeah man I'll bring the build in tomorrow and you can take a look at it.
