Now Playing... What are you Listening to Right Now?

This track (‘I dreamt of you’ from Jimmy Haslip’s Arc, in case the link doesn’t work) has been haunting me in the last few days. It’s composed by Vince Mendoza with this weirdly ambiguous bass melody. Sco takes over for the second section where it briefly settles down into a clear key centre. It’s so clearly Sco’s sound and lines, but Jimmy’s bass solo toward the end takes out IMHO.

I’ve been lucky enough to see each of them live. Sco with Herbie et al in London remains a lifelong highlight. He was risk-taking to the point of one thinking ‘Man, how’s he going to get out of this particular painted corner?’ Then he’d pull the proverbial rabbit out of his magic hat and cue the band (with Dave Holland, Jack deJohnette et al.) back to safety. Unforgettable stuff.

I saw one Scofield show where he turned all the Au Go Go tunes into ragtime, then played a bunch of standards as groove tunes in the next set. Taking chances seems to suit him really well. Also saw him with Billy Cobham, George Duke, and Alphonso Johnson way back in the day, one of the greatest fusion shows I've ever witnessed.

Played through all of Limousine's discography today at work, and have the last track of Siam Roads on now. In general they're groovy french jazz fusion akin to BADBADNOTGOOD but with more psych rock tinge. This album has more Southeast Asian influences than their rest. More tempered than say, A Beautiful Day's Bombay Calling, but obvious nods nonetheless. If you like BBNG, Khruangbin, Yin Yin, check it out

Big fan of Fripp and Eno in general but they made some real magic here IMO.
Dude yes! One of my fav Fripp & Eno recordings. I keep hoping we get another record from the two of them— Evening Star to the Equatorial Stars was almost 30 years, so I can’t rule it out.

Have you checked out the new album Fripp did with The Grid a few years ago? Doesn’t have the classic Fripp fuzz tone, but it’s the most Fripp & Eno like thing he’s done in a long time— much more similar to Evening Star than any of his other 21st century soundscape escapades

Ever since my favorite hip hop artist, MF DOOM ("All caps when you spell the name") died, I've been occasionally buying his instrumentals on vinyl so I can play them for my kids. It'll be too repetitive for some of you guys but there's some bangers from his King Gheedorah record on here and it makes me very happy. Excellent board populating tunes for me.

I also just wanted to support his family who's been releasing his stuff on vinyl again at gasdrawls.com. I would've bought a shirt too if they offered tall sizes. This pin will just have to do.

Currently listening to Gilmours playing on the MLOR and Division Bells. Talk about two completely yet sweet tones. Division Bells and Pulse tones are my favorite……at the moment. Next month it’ll be Animals lol.
