My guess is that this PCB is the bypass switching and a "Haunting Mids" type circuit, the distortion is on the other PCB.

Those are typically outsourced to various other vendors too.So the JHS Hard Drive. I like how they always make it sound like the design process was like building rocket ship or a skyscraper.
