observation with Germ diodes yesterday

You guys ever run into a set of germanium clippers that are ungodly noisy? I went to test a kliche build last night and fired it up without diodes just to make sure everything fired up.... Flipped it over and threw in a set of germs from my stash and turned it on and it was buzzing like a hive... Pulled them.. no buzz. Selected a different pair/part# and they were night and day...

I believe germanium diodes in soft clipping arrangements can cause some level issues due to leakage. But the klon uses hard clipping and should be relatively immune to that issue. Did you test the diodes?

Yes I actually tested them with the DCA75 to check FV and both diodes were .37.. Just thought it was interesting.. because it was so quiet with no diodes.. popped them in and it was making a really bad background noise... pulled the diodes and the pedal went dead quiet... Went to the bench and grabbed a different type of germaniums.. some 1N270.. put them in and the pedal was quieter .. with obviously some noise floor because it is a drive pedal... but literally it was a night and day type of noise... Now I know at least to check diodes if a pedal is overly noisy
