First post here from me. I got the octave and distortion to work. When i engaged the boost i get very low volume. If i turn the boost volume all the up i can hear my signal but its super quiet.

If you want help:

- Verify all value used for transistors, caps, pots
- Visual inspection for suspect solder points, reflow anything suspicious
- Take HD pictures of you board, both side, pots raised, so that we can see the all the components and solder points
- Make sure the picture shows the input/output/switch's connections ...

From there someone should be able to help...

BTW, Boxcar, is this related to P-Car ?

A quick possibly

Many moons ago the BS170 did have different pinouts depending on manufacturer

If you haven't checked the pinout already try flipping that around

Something else to try:

I had this exact same thing happen to a friend I built one for. I was made aware that bad BS170s sometimes don't crap out until ~10+ hours of usage. So my during my tests it was fine, but after a week or 2 of usage the boost was doing the exact same thing you mention. Crazy low volume (but still on) even at max volume.

So before going crazy tearing it apart and probing etc, I would simply swap it out for another.

These seems to be a fairly common issue that I just solved myself after a week or so of trying. Check R31. It should be 470 ohms. I had mistaken the R in 470R for a K. With a 470K there you will indeed get a volume decrease not a volume boost.
