PSA: Fender.com Labor Day Sale

I just use the Gibson because I'm familiar with it. I have a feel for what I should be getting from a circuit and it cuts down some of the noise I'd get from single coils. If a circuit is humming I know it's probably not the guitar.
this is smart i use my prs for test all the time but only because its fastest to access :ROFLMAO: going in more concious of this next time.

I have this exact guitar, though I guess mine is a 2011. Love it
i love that guitar its my go to when i want to play and plug up bunch of pedals! i like to play alot of grunge music so couple this with a rat and some reverb your good to go ill even through in the blues breaker to get even more crunchy goodness.

must be why on single coils i only use the combo positions  I have doubts the tele will be in any other spot once i get done refinishing it

Initially the Les Paul was only going to temporarily be my workshop guitar since it was the least expensive guitar I had (it's a Tribute model), but at some point I decided not to swap it.

Now I see the new Tributes aren't solid anymore and have weight relief, which makes this one even more valuable to me.

I don't like light guitars, I want that "ooof" feeling when I grab it off the stand. :ROFLMAO:

that oomph when you pick it up and your spine looking like a question mark when your strapped up i know and love the feeling too! :ROFLMAO:

well... I didn't foil the cavity when I 1st put the shartcaster together.... so it's on psuedo HB in 2 and 4... could always build you guys 1 made of swamp oak and cypress ;)

Know anyone who does mint condition nitro refinishes (or finishes on a new body)?

I'd go with MJT but I really don't want any level of relic and they don't do "mint" ....

What year Tribute? I have a 2011 P90 one, when they still had rosewood fretboards but it’s weight relieved. It sounds amazing but it just doesn’t “feel” right.

So are SGs..... and that Silver Sky I've been eyeballing.

How can I, in good faith, release a PCB that hasn't been tested on a wide variety of guitars?

Now I feel obligated.... I need them all, it's a business expense.
Only if the SG has P90s

So you only test the pedals with humbuckers... hmmm...

That explains a lot.

and ...

OBLIGATED, yes! So...

You need a bass to test ALL circuits not just with guitar but with bass so you can forewarn us bass-players which circuits need extensive mods for bassification, and which ones will never intrinsically be useful on bass. (But I'd probably buy them anyway, just to see for myself that the circuit sucks bass).

So you'll need a bass with a preamp, too, while your at it — some of those circuits don't like the extra push a bass preamp shoves down the hookup wire;
another bass with bassbuckers such as a MusicMan and
Oh! P & J pickups,
a 5 or 6 string to test pedals for Low-B compatibility,
a hollowbody bass to test for feedback-inducing issues (maybe even an upright? I got one for sale, cheap),
an 8-string or 12 string in 4-courses so the harmonics don't pull any Cheap Tricks,
an extended range bass so you know the highs are handled evenly with the lows without too much treble, and then...

You have to double every one of those basses above because you'll need one of each with flats and one of each with roundwounds...

You better get shopping, the sale isn't going to last forever.

Time to repost that link to the thread CDB posted, which had a link to an article about conspicuous consumption and how to justify it.

At least, I think that was what the article was about...

Nah, that's just my workbench guitar. I have single coils, P90's, and more humbuckers as well.

That was already posted earlier and it did absolutely no good. I was too busy shopping to read it.

Ok, so in full confession (and posted earlier) I got a set of Pure 65 Jazzmaster pickups and a Player JM neck, that I just finished doing a complete prep on. (Sanded fingerboard, waxed and buffed, rolled edges, full fret level, crown and polish. It's drying now. Got them both at stupid prices, couldn't resist. Otherwise I would have gone with an Allparts neck and Lollar pickups.

BUT, of course it's a Player JM so it's got the modern drill tuning machines, so I'm waiting for some conversion bushings to arrive to install the vintage style tuners. Just installed the pickups, switchcraft toggle, CTS pots, but I'm waiting for the Rhythm circuit pots to arrive yet. I may need to modify the original bracket to accept the CTS mini pots, dunno yet. I may also need to either modify or buy some new thumbwheels.

Also waiting for an American Vintage Jazzmaster vibrato that Music Zoo was blowing out at $57.

So all in all, I'm pretty happy, these were all upgrades I was planning anyway but I spent about $250 less than I intended.

Now, the Jazz bass is a different story......I'm hoping my wife can't count past 4 strings.......

Edit: Oh yah, I had to order more pushback pickup wire, freaking vintage Jazzmaster wiring needs like 20 feet..........

I'm debating whether the throw the original Squier pickups (which actually sound darn good) up on Reverb or save them for another experiment I've been toying with. Thinking about building a Tele Cabronita with JM pickups......(Do I need another Tele? :)

Do you have one with JM pickups? Sounds like a need to me.
