Removing Powder Coat

I have a Tayda enclosure that I want to remove the powder coat from. I saw in the DIY powder coat thread acetone and an orbital sander was mentioned. Anyone have any other suggestions?

I've always just used orbital sander and/or belt sander, acetone alone will not dissolve powdercoat like it will spraypaint. I will say that completely stripping an entire enclosure is a frustrating process and is likely to change the shape unless you're an expert sander, particularly on corners.

Thanks, I think one of my neighbors will have some kind of electric sander I can borrow/use. As for any deviation of the shape it’s just for me so I’d be fine with that.

I started with some sandpaper by hand and the edges were exposed pretty easily, but I can see it will take a lot of elbow grease to do the whole thing.

I use Klean Strip paint stripper. The brushable kind, where it’s a thick solution that will cling onto the enclosure. Leave it in the solution for a day or 2. In some cases depending on the powder coat, it will peel right off, in other cases you will have to sand it to help remove the stubborn coat.

Here’s a link Klean Strip
