SCRAP

What a dumbass I can be sometimes...I made these little break-off boards for DPDT On-On-On switches. They're just supposed to switch between 3 cap values. Easy job. Except they don't. I made my own Kicad footprint and somehow borked the pinout so thoroughly that it still doesn't work even if I put the switch on the wrong side of the board. I always seem to get On-On-On switches wrong on the first try. Dammit.

Still, this pales in comparison to this older pile of scrap. Some of the holes didn't line up with the PCB-mounted pots. There was no fixin' it in the mix.

Not enough JBWeld to fix that noise. WOW.

Ouch... You just have to chalk it up to being of the added cost margin for DIY, we all screw up fairly regularly. I guess we're all members of the F-up club!

Have you considered offering those boards up for solder practicing boards? I've seen a fair amount of novice builds in the troubleshooting section that probably could have used a little practice beforehand.

Sharpie out the I/O portion at the bottom and sell them at a minimal amount as "practice boards" and at least recoup a little...

I have actually sent a few stacks to folks (and a school) for soldering practice, so that's always an option.

I've been planning to eventually tile a bench top and coat it in clear epoxy.
We have soldering classes at work sometimes, I could use some practice boards. I would gladly get the office to pay for them…

This did not happen overnight, but it's also not the first (or only) box of it's kind.
Oyaaaa.... My scrapping skills suddenly feel inadequate now.

On the bright side, to have that much scrap, you gotta be doing pretty well 👍

Cut to the right size, with some sharp corners left, I find that PCB stock makes great guitar/bass picks. It actually sounds smashin', better than Brian May's coin, as long as you don't mind the glass dust and like heavier picks. But hey, sand is basically glass dust, right? And we still go to the beach.

FREE "PEDALPCB DRINK-COASTERS" WITH EVERY ORDER!

@JTEX I hope you blast/scrape/burn/whatever off the paint on those enclosures and repurpose them for experimental builds or something.
Or you could JB-Weld/Epoxy in the holes and use them as parts-dishes/containers, candy dishes at parties, ... something.

I'd hate to see so many enclosures go to complete waste.

You should slip one or two of those in with some orders (of course, you need to make sure you know who has a sense of humor), and then people like me who have way too many boards to build will just stash them away, and you can have a good laugh when you read our posts on the troubleshooting forum when we get around to building them.

We know who the lawyers are now (though the show is your gear thread a couple weeks ago also gave that away) so be sure to avoid them.

You didn't have to being the lawyers in to this. As I said, Robert knows who has a sense of humor and who doesn't. To be explicit -- I won't sue you if you send me your garbage -- ok now Robert has it on record.

Edit: having said that doesn't mean I wouldn't get pissed if he sends me his garbage, but I guess I would have deserved it since I suggested it.

Got a delivery from PCBWAY yesterday. Found a gross error while they were in flight. I didn't even open the box. direct to trash can. Usually, a mistake or two can be handled with a bodge. Not these. Complete dumass mistake.

I think these bodge boards deserve a challenge to see it they can be resurrected.

I use the bodge boards! But the ones I tossed are so bad they can't be used. No choice but to order 10 more and wait....... This is the second time I've had to just toss a set of boards in the can. Very depressing when it happens.

PCB errors only ever get caught after the order is already paid for and in production. Triple double-checking a design before ordering a batch accomplishes nothing.

The same logic applies to ordering parts. You only ever remember to order that one last part after the big order is already out. No matter how much you think ahead, it's no help. Only the act of clicking the Buy button can trigger your memory.

What do you mean, I thought the industry standard is to release it as version 1.0 and have build document mention that you need to jumper X and Y to get it to work? Or have the community figure it out on your Facebook group all by themselves? What has the world come to!
