Stuff you wanted to know but were afraid to ask

Here's one - I populated a Rat board (not boxed, may be a factor), and I get a crazy amount of squealing when using certain humbuckers. Seems to be an issue people have faced before, and putting a buffer in front solves it completely. Has anyone installed either a little jfet buffer before a Rat board or else used something like this? I'm not super familiar with the wide world of buffers, but the C-Buffer 3PDT one looks to be pre-effect, which is what I need. Maybe this isn't something many people deal with? I dunno, this is my first time messin with this circuit. I like it more than I thought I would. 1792342181701.png

Like a footswitch-shaped expression pedal? Is that kind of what you're picturing?

Yes. But picture a DIY Moog Taurus with stomp switches instead of levers.

The Hangmanfx diy kit looks like what I'm after, just not for $40 each 😬. Looks like it is a hall sensor using magnets and a 3d printed holder.

Voyeurism.
heh
So you don't have to clip out every other pin.
thank you!
i'm actually looking at using that board to make changing a pot orientation more straightforward, while still being able to use the pot as an attachment point for a board to an enclosure..
i did a build with the pot flying over the board and i got it to work out, but i'd rather solder a pot to that breakout board and then use the corresponding 321 holes on the breakout board and some header pins instead of doing pic related.. which works, but.. .eh...it looks like that pot board will just let me mirror the pads without the mess of wire..

okay i'm legit a little afraid to ask this one.
but i'm gonna ask it anyways because this thread compels it:

I've read that as a rule, variable gain non-inverting opamp configurations will have a minimum gain of 1. you can't go to zero with a textbook variable gain via feedback loop with that set up, like pic related #1.
So having read this, i'm reading forum posts from another site from a decade ago and someone asks about that point, can it go to 0. one of the posters states that variable gain indeed has a min gain of 1 using non-inverting.. but then turns around and agrees with pic related #2 from a different poster, calls it a mod to the variable gain to get the asker what they want.. and then states that peavey used it in mixers and amps.
to me it looks like they just tacked the feedback loop gain pot to the output instead of tying it to back to the wiper.. which seems odd, but now I'm asking a question that I'm afraid to ask! :)

Is pic related #2 odd?
or ok?
