Sunflower PNP AC125KZ

This is my cleanest build yet! Sunflower board w/ AC125KZ PNP NOS germanium transistors from a seller on Reverb. Pack of four transistors and HFE was said to be between 90-100; around $20 shipped. I didn't measure... I just stuck them in the sockets. Sounds great!

Since I'm now addicted, I went ahead and got a ton of extra parts in my last Tayda order. Really loving the space saving of the external DC nut and their mono jacks are a steal. The enclosure was powder coated and drilled @ Tayda and my only complaint is the LED hole was too small for an LED to fit through (if I'm not using a bezel, I go 3/16 to expose a bit more of the part) and the DC nut was about 9/16. No biggie, easy fix.

I found the internal trimmers set 100% CCW sounded the way I wanted it too; gnarly and spitty with the Sundial 100% CCW. The clean trimmer set CW introduced too much clean signal (duh!) for my liking and tamed the volume a bit, and the bias trimmer set CW was less fuzzy to me.

I've never had a Sunface or Fuzz Face, but I like how versatile the controls are. The Sundial can make it more like a lo fi fuzz CCW, and move like a fuzzy OD turned up. The volume and fuzz controls are pretty tame; volume until about the last 25% and fuzz until the last 5%-10%. Going into a clean amp, it can be a mild OD to all out fuzz monster; I love it! Into a dirty Orange amp... complete craziness!

Edit: I'm not artist, but I did the sunflower w/ colored sharpies. Sealed with glittery Mod Podge. I need to really stick a knob on there before labeling the controls... Also, the Tayda knobs look a little "cheap"... I mean, they are cheap, but they also look like they're missing something...

Now, on to the next...

Looks good! Nice artwork.

The "Outie" power jacks I got from Tayda were crap. Threads are so loose the nut practically falls off. SBP has good ones.

Thanks and thanks for the heads up! I put my test box together tonight with the same jack, so we'll see. Hopefully they hold up.

i built the same. only issue im having is with volume up all the way i get this shrill whine or hiss. like a 60 cycle hum but way worse. all my grounds are good. bias doesnt affect it.
