Things have to change ! Bass pedals on PPCB !

It's always a great surprise to look for effects entirely designed for Bass, and find almost nothing on PedalPCB's website.

I am sure it's all just a simple misunderstanding, and there are many hopes to improve this dire situation ?

Let's remember that bass instruments as we know them appeared in the 60's, and bass players were left in shadows, in the back of the stage, behind the guitarists, for years. If I understood correctly, it's Larry Graham who was the first to step into to the light, he left Sly and the Family Stones to play with his own band, and play bass in the front of the stage :

I would start by a project that has no equivalent in the diy community, despite being very popular (in the top 3 for years) and very interesting :

Aguilar Agro Overdrive.

Here is the original :

Here is a thread where someone began something, but never finished it, unfortunately.

This project is nowhere to be found in the diy community, so PPCB would have the lead on this one. Thousands and thousands of boards would be sold in a very short time. @Robert could become a life savior and a legend among bassists in one single strike !

The second project suggestion would be BOSS ODB-3, of course. There are already a few projects available, it's a classic for good reasons.

Can we still have hopes, or Bass dirt circuits are out of reach on PedalPCB ?

Honestly, the percentage of bass specific circuits is much smaller with respect to ALL circuits.

And this is a business, although Bugg is the most accommodating and will take a stab at anything specific you through out there.

My personal experience at JTEX is quite the opposite. For every guitar gadget I sell, I probably sell a dozen bass things. But that's probably because I focus on on-board stuff. I suspect guitarists are much more close-minded than bassists when it comes to putting electronics inside their precious, firmly stuck-in- the-60s instrument. To those, I say: I have a black-and-white, CRT TV to sell you! Vintage! RCA tubes!

I mean if you’re doing diy pedal building what is the real difference? Half my builds are full of subs anyways because of mods that everyone posts
here is a mod exemple, converting a Klon to bass specs :

It's always heavy mods to fully convert a circuit, it's not just a cap here and there. You have to be really knowledgeable to seriously modify a circuit for bass.

The difference is that bass players, who aren't circuit wizards or electronic engineers, can enjoy some circuits fully designed for bass, and not just making compromises for guitar circuits partially working on bass.

Of course there are other websites where bass circuits can be found. I just thought it could be interesting to have more choices on PPCB. Especially the Agro overdrive, which is very popular among bass players for years, and doesn't have any diy project available to this day.

I am not sure i understand what you mean. What request forum ? Isn't it the request forum right here ? There is an other one ?
What I mean is to make specific requests. The more bass-specific requests that populate the wish list, the better odds that they will be made.

I know you suggested a couple in your OP but I think that giving each pedal their own thread, naming them in the title, and giving specific info on them is probably the best way to go about getting more bass boards. That's my understanding of this part of the forum, at least.

Since we are starting from nothing (or almost nothing if we consider Big Muff and such bass friendly guitar's circuits), the wish list could be quite long.

Can we still have hopes, or Bass dirt circuits are definitely out of reach on PedalPCB ?
I agree, There could be alot more Bass designed PCB's.
From my experiences with Bass players is they find a particular Bass pedal & they don't change, it becomes their Sound!
From the Guys I have dealt with this is the answer to most guitar designed pedals:
I loaned this out to my mates Bass Player for their latest CD:

I don’t know, looks pretty simple to me, someone already did the hard part, all you have to do is populate the board, don’t have to be a circuit wizard to do that 🤷🏻.

Sorry if it wasn't clear. I meant the "hard part" is what requires someone knowledgeable.

Of course it's pretty easy to make these changes once the hard part is done.

You were asking about the difference between building stompboxes and converting circuits to bass specs. My answer was : the real difference is that you have to do the "hard part" to achieve that, and that few people can correctly analyze and make accurate modifications to fully convert a circuit to bass specs.

That's why it would be more convenient for bass players to have more choice among Bass circuits, rather than becoming a circuit wizard, or an electronic engineer, in order to be able to find the right spots, the right values, and make the necessary modifications on guitar circuits.

The title was kind of a joke in the second degree. I am sorry if it's in a bad taste. I don't get the Veruca Salt reference, but i guess it's bad ?

"things have to change" meant on the second degree doesn't sound very offensive to me, though. Are we sure it's "being a dick" ?

Edit : It was echoing the atmosphere in France these days, people are craving for changes. "Things have to change" is pretty much all we can think about these days.

I'll be more careful, thanks for the kind warning i guess...

Now I really want to hear a Rhodes through a Brassmaster. That's gotta be gnarly.
OOH! I really want to hear that now.

I've been researching for years trying to find out what sort of fuzz circuit Mike Ratledge used on his Lowrey organ (and occasionally his Rhodes).
Fuzz on keys is a magical sound

that time I decided to see about hacking in an effects loop for my yamaha clav ...
