Things have to change ! Bass pedals on PPCB !

It's always a great surprise to look for effects entirely designed for Bass, and find almost nothing on PedalPCB's website.

I am sure it's all just a simple misunderstanding, and there are many hopes to improve this dire situation ?

Let's remember that bass instruments as we know them appeared in the 60's, and bass players were left in shadows, in the back of the stage, behind the guitarists, for years. If I understood correctly, it's Larry Graham who was the first to step into to the light, he left Sly and the Family Stones to play with his own band, and play bass in the front of the stage :

I would start by a project that has no equivalent in the diy community, despite being very popular (in the top 3 for years) and very interesting :

Aguilar Agro Overdrive.

Here is the original :

Here is a thread where someone began something, but never finished it, unfortunately.

This project is nowhere to be found in the diy community, so PPCB would have the lead on this one. Thousands and thousands of boards would be sold in a very short time. @Robert could become a life savior and a legend among bassists in one single strike !

The second project suggestion would be BOSS ODB-3, of course. There are already a few projects available, it's a classic for good reasons.

Can we still have hopes, or Bass dirt circuits are out of reach on PedalPCB ?

The title was kind of a joke in the second degree. I am sorry if it's in a bad taste. I don't get the Veruca Salt reference, but i guess it's bad ?

"things have to change" meant on the second degree doesn't sound very offensive to me, though. Are we sure it's "being a dick" ?

Edit : I guess it was echoing the atmosphere in France these days, people are craving for changes. "Things have to change" is pretty much all we can think about these days...
Sounds like you need some Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Gene Wilder is the shiiiit.

I don't know about all this dick stuff, I didn't read you as being quite as petulant as Ms. Salt. Playfully ribbing our dear leader, perhaps. You're not wrong about the ratio of guitar od to bass specific offerings but as it has been said, there's far more for us today than 3 yrs ago when I got back into solderplay. Any bass specific project is likely to undersell compared to every single yats in the od section so any bone thrown to us is appreciated.

Also putting some love out there to the people of France.

More requests in the wish list help but being proactive may speed things up.

This is a forum with seriously knowledgeable people. We are lucky to have Chuck Bones and Mr. Sushi Box FX himself, who knows a thing or two about bass pedals. Both freely share their knowledge with us all the time. Start a thread asking for help on how to modify a circuit for bass and it's likely to attract the attention of people who can help. Then the mods are suggested, tested and verified by the community and we all benefit because we all learn something, which we probably wouldn't if we were simply served a new BOM.

Another avenue to explore is to send Robert a bass pedal you own to be traced. He's busy tracing what he thinks is worth tracing and he seems to be doing a great job at running his business but I'm sure he'd be up for the challenge. I imagine Joe from Gray Bench Electronics would be happy to trace a pedal too and we might even get a video out of that.

Or you could ask ChatGPT. I hate AI with a passion and I'm very worried about its consequences but people are embracing it enthusiastically so it's not going anywhere for now, might as well use it.

Liked your post Andare, but honestly you lost me at ChatGPT. What is it? Never heard of it before. Is it sorta like where people ask the IA to come up with an image for their pedal?

Unfortunately yes but it's just text for now. It can give answers to questions, generate worksheets for lessons, write academic papers, write lyrics etc.
I think we're doomed.

Of course, @eh là bas is totally right and just stating the facts without beeing a dick about anything. I mean, there are 22 categories of PCBs listed, from "Acessories" to "Wah", and "Bass" is not one of them.

So, even if there is something like the B3K, you would need to wade through the 443 PCBs in that category to maybe find it ....

And come on, saying things like "no bass tube screamer for you, just take one of the 27 YATS for guitar available and mod it to your bass needs" is a very guitarcentric thing to say and gets a big "meh" with a yawn from me.
Sure, modding is cool, but WE WANT TO MOD BASS PEDALS.

Ok, this is a business, sure, so what's wrong with trying to get more money from bass players? Because, believe it or not, we do have money.

In the end, it's all good though. This place is great, Robert is cool, sometimes I buy PCBs here, sometimes I buy PCBs elsewhere.

I'n not a Bass player but...
Music would be mundaine without the BASS so let's just give the Bass players a share of what is available & what can be Modified.
Chuck D. Bones gave us the Klon mod for the Bass, so let's get it done!!!

Same thing for me when I hear that a lefty should learn on a right handed guitar, "you get the advantage of using your dominant hand to fret" ... well if that's such an advantage, why only the left handed should do it.

Yep, another Lefty here also!

ChatGPT. What is it?
Just something to manage your text messages to your S.O.
Here 's a pedal bassed on the Bearfoot Honey Bee that I built around 2016:
Well.. that's just teasing isn't it?

Back slightly to topic, do bass players even need pedals? I thought they just went DI to the board and then the audio engineer limited the signal until there was only 1dB of dynamic range so they can play perfectly in sync with the kick drum and not be heard as "notes".

I was born ambidextrous.

In grade 1, I alternated daily between writing with my left and right hands. Then the teacher spotted me one day:
T: "Weren't you writing with your right hand yesterday?"
YFF: "Yeah, I like to alternate"
T: "Well from now on you only write with your right hand"
My mom didn't know this 'til about 50 years later — she was so mad at that teacher! 🤬

In Grade-8 my whole class had a guitar teacher; I was playing lefty because it was more comfortable;
She forced me to play righty simply because I could, even though it didn't feel as natural.

Society/teachers have beaten out of me my ambidexterity. 😿

I coulda had classical. I coulda been a contrabass-ender. I coulda been somebody, I coulda been the Michael Angelo Batio of BASS!...

...instead of an effects-bum, which is what I am, let's face it.

I'm right handed but I skated goofy, and skating switch isn't that hard once you get the hang of it. Like learning a third language if you already know two. When I was an archery instructor, I could shoot as well left-handed as I can right. My wife is a righty but left eye dominant so she shoots lefty.

Same experience here, I probably should have written lefty. Penmanship grades were a setback to my stellar academic career in grade school, same as PE. But the bright side is that I never really abandoned staying ambi in doing tech work, and I can still solder left handed just fine when needed.
