Nothing too exciting, but here's my trusty old Minidrive.
Interestingly, while I've done more PedalPCB builds than I'd care to count I think it might be the only TS-type one I've done...which is a bit odd as honestly I really quite like TS-adjacent drives on the whole. But, this one has mostly worked well for me and hasn't felt like a pressing "need". I'm always a bit torn as there are a few that I've owned in the past and liked (Sliver/Barber LTD, Boteh/Paisley Drive, Mahayana/Zendrive, etc) but also find myself thinking that perhaps something new would scratch that mysterious itch...
I do have a handful of TS-types I've wanted to try out at some point, though. In having some discussions about the Minidrive I was informed that it's built from the FD2 Mosfet rather than the FD1 (which was said to be taken from the pre-Mosfet FD2). The pre-Mosfet FD2 (particularly the "pull for Comp-Cut", no toggle version) is one of my favorite drives of all time, so that's really something I've been chasing. They used to be dirt cheap; I should've never sold mine or bought one back when you could find them for 100 bucks or less but they've been getting more expensive lately and even more so with Fulltone's retirement or whatever you want to call it.
I'd be curious if anyone had any more info on the roots/basis of the Bootleg (JHS Moonshine). I remember reading years ago - and I don't know how accurate this is, just passing along what I had read long ago - that the JHS Low Drive (marketed as a bass OD) was more or less taken from the Fulldrive 2 Pre-Mosfet and that the Moonshine was born out of the roots of the Low Drive. If that were the case then I suspect the Bootleg/Moonshine would be closer to that pre-Mosfet FD2 I've been after.
My favorite TS ever though has to be the uber-fancy TS808HW. I don't know if it's just buying the hype, getting fooled by the "mojo," or if it's actually got that special something but I LOVED that pedal. I got mine for about 200 bucks which was a decent deal at the time. But it felt a bit too spendy for "just" an overdrive and I figured I could get by with something cheaper. And that was true to some extent, but you know how it goes...you really have to pay through the nose for that final 5%. At nearly $400 new I don't think I'll be owning one again any time soon, though.
I've heard a ton of good things about the Plumes, figure I'm due to try that one out at some point...and I'd like to try the King Tone one as well. Soloist, I think? I'm also rather interested in the "Courier" or Shnobel Tone Mid-Driver. I don't know how much (if any) topology it actually shares with a Tube Screamer BUT I really quite liked the Daily Driver and figure that the mid-focused Mid Driver is probably meant to cover similar ground to a TS, so maybe it fits.
Is this still a thing, can I still play, can I still win? Oh well, might as well post it anyway. Here's my SD-1, the better tube screamer on a Tuesday.
This one is long overdue. Some of you may recall the Little Green Scream Machine contest that our resident Monty Hall/Oprah hosted last year. Well, thanks to that contest and it’s associated prize, this pedal exists. Big round of applesauce for @fig— He makes the dreams come true 🤩 So yeah...
