Vertical Electrovibe

Hear me out Bugg…

I’ve bonded with my full size Electrovibe after my personal mods and moving the Offset and Gain controls outside.

However, the horizontal configuration is not as pedalboard friendly as a vertical one.

Not expecting anything but I would be pumped…

I was investigating a few things last night. It just seems like a redesign of the ElectroVibe, with a full and Mini version, plus a Deluxe version coming out, would be pretty time consuming and silly.

I’ve been reviewing the classic Unicord schematic against many of the available schematics, such as the ElectroVibe, Harbinger, Forum Vibe, etc.

I think a non-stacked 125B version could be doable but would involve some tweaks to the schematic and component selection:

1.) Make any discrete transistor Darlington pairs a true Darlington, i.e. MPSA13 or MPSA14. That eliminates 6 discrete transistors if I’m counting correctly.

2.) Eliminate the charge pump circuitry and run 18-24 vDC direct to the 15 vDC regulator. That frees up some precious board space.

3.) Mouser sells a KOA Spear branded metal film resistor that is 1/4w in 1/8w size. That should free up considerable space.

4.) Sub 50 vDC tantalum for anything explicitly requiring electrolytic. Use MLCC wherever possible.

5.) Move gain and bias offboard (something I’m doing on my big EVibe already)

6.) Use a PCB mounted DC jack and extend the board space up between the I/O jacks.

I’m gonna take a crack at a board design.

You've officially put more into this thread/project than I have put into parenting my kids. Like how the fuck are you planning on turning those knobs between the two pots?

Those are just LEDs. One for the Rate and an individual one for each speed.

There’s just three additional controls: External Bias and Gain and the Phase Mix.

Stop enabling! Why not just put in his head making it modular and swapping out 1590A's for different specs, and when he's not using it it'll transformer into an Autobot and fight the Decepticons!?
Listen, I’m not the person to discourage completely same ideas such as this. I’m the person who built a fuzz with 4 footswitches in a 1590BB; I’m the person who is working on a tonebender design with 8 pots, 7 mini toggles, and 2 footswitches. I have a notes page in my phone with hundreds of paragraphs on mod notes for shit that makes Big Monk seem like a Gibson “Play Authentic™️“-level staunch traditionalist. I am absolutely full of terrible and impractical ideas, so you can be sure that I’ll encourage madness like this without a second thought!

You guys should without a doubt be doing digital. With the right algorithm you could make as many terrible sounds with a guitar as your heart desires 🥰
Oh trust me, I’ve got some big plans. I’m just the world’s most technologically-inept millennial. If I understood how to actually use a computer I’d already be deep into the FXcore wormhole (shameless plug for my FX core dev board wishlist thread), because I have a lot of ideas

Why not just have a bi-color led for speed A/B, and have that also be the rate indicator? Would free up some real estate for sure

Well, the bi-color LEDs are the clear types and I just like the way the diffused Red LEDs look. It’ll match better with the others.

I’m planning on 3mm LEDs so they won’t take up much space.

It’s a UniVibe with mods for modernity not the Fart pedal.

When do you get your paid hater status? Or do you have to kill @thesmokingman first?
