What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Got the second revision of my dual relay boards in, and they’re working as expected. One footswitch, two channels, hold to toggle channel two.

I was putting one together and thinking, I was lazy and hadn’t updated the version number. Test it. Same issues as the first one. Yup. I had built the first one again. That was fun to desolder.. solder sucker and wick practice I guess..

Soon to be Dry Box for the screens! :D

I still need to add a few pieces to make it more rigid. Need to add a door, It will be sealed to not let light in. The smaller compartment will house a small heater and a dehumidifier, as well as a couple fans for air flow. Then i need to add some shelving to slide the screens in and out for ease of use. So far pretty happy with it!

And now my Purple Period comes to an end for now.

Fired up the TC-1 for the first time to check some germanium transistors I bought on Ebay for this Truth Bender (Keeley Fuzz Bender). 120hfe was the highest I had so went with that, and some 200-or-so hfe silicons I think. Sounds pretty nice, quite splatty, although it's not really gating - not quite sure if it's supposed to.

Weird thing also, my 2.1mm DC Jacks from Tayda had one with a bigger pole in the middle, 2.4mm maybe? I noticed only after I had soldered it so had to switch it out. The others were all fine.

Just need to add the door and drill the holes for the fans. Ive decided to put the UV Cure Box on top for an all in one station. I also put on casters so i can roll it around without having to pick it up!

I’ve watched a few videos of people screen printing pedals, and I’m always mesmerized. Coolest graphics option in my opinion. I’m excited to see what you come up with! So far it looks like a lot of work! 🤣

Dude this is the most prep ive had to do just to set up! Once everything is out of the way and i have the proper equipment i dont think the actual screen printing process will be bad. My experience with powder coating has taught me to prepare correctly and to not cut corners. I know if i want the best line definition and best graphic results i need to do the extra prep. So yeah i agree alot of work but im thinking it'll be worth it!

All this guitar work inspired me to drag some dinosaurs out of the closet and throw money at them for the learning experience. I should have taken more pictures while I was sorting this out, but we all can't be @MichaelW . I have a Ibanez RG270 that I bought at some point in in the mid-90s that I haven't touched in years. I decided to tear it apart and replace everything that's not wood. First up was replacing the stock tremolo with a Gotoh GE1996t. People claimed it was a drop in replacement, but that's only because they're lazy. Yes the tremolo does fit in the cavity (more or less) and if you use the stock posts you're good to go. The stock posts are way smaller than the Gotoh ones and since I payed for them I wanted to use them, so first up was trying to enlarge and deepen those holes without screwing everything up before I barely got started. The first surprise I encountered was that some at Ibanez wasn't paying attention when they drilled the original post holes, because they accidentally drilled all the way through and simply stuck a small square piece of wood in there (not even glued) to plug it up. I popped that out and properly plugged it before proceeding. I was worried about the drill bit walking down one side when I went to enlarge the holes so I whipped up a bushing that I 3D printed with pins to keep things nice and centered. The pins had the smaller diameter at the bottom and the larger at the top. So I inserted the pins, then I could place the bushing over the top and clamp it in place. Then I pulled the pins out and had a guide for keeping the bit centered over the existing holes. These pictures were taken after the fact, but you get the idea.

That worked out pretty well and once I was done I used my drill press to press in the new posts. Now that the scary part is out of the way I'll remove everything else and get to putting it back to together with all new goodies.

A germanium Fuzz Face for a friend. My first commissioned pedal!

I love the cleanup but the fuzz tone is a bit flubby in the low end.
I opted for a 220nF input cap and a 250k volume pot to cut some of the woofiness. Standard C1k fuzz pot for fine tuning.
1k instead of 470R for more volume.

A 100uF filtering cap doesn't seem to make any difference except when the guitar is off so I'm gonna leave it out.

Taking shape.

One metal film, 2 expensive Dale with weird values, one 1W carbon film and one carbon comp resistor.
For caps we have a 22u Vishay, a 220n Greenie and a 10n JB that's only rated for 630V. I wonder if it'll be enough lol

Missing are one jumper, two Polish trannies and wires.

Not sure if I shared this already. This is a Vivie Minerva clone (which is YABB), and goes to prove that A) I can fit it into a 1590B, and B) why I hate fitting stuff into a 1590B. It wouldn't work with a 3PDT, but I am all into the soft relays now.

Working up a two channel preamp design for this mutant:

Dojo1.jpg

Probably piezo channel, mag pickup channel, EFX loop, DSP delay/verb/chorus, and maybe stereo DI. Resonant LPF on at least one channel, other EQ choices still TBD. I have an HPF/one band full PEQ board already built up that might be a good fit. It won't all fit in a 125B, pretty sure. :ROFLMAO:

Yet it might all fit behind that ff hole!

On my “workbench”…

Friend is Re-painting my car, again!

It was done last spring, but he wasn't happy with it so he's going at it again. I'll be doing a LOT , I mean a SHIP TONNE more colour-sanding this time to get a deeper finish sans orange-peel. That's my lesson from last time. When you think you've done enough wet-sanding — do a f***-ton more.

Popped off the handle to sharpen the blades of my Dad's ol' push mower, because my brother flocked off to Cali to see his GF and didn't return our mother's mower 🤬 before leaving. If you're going to steal the gas-powered mower, at least have the $#%^&* decency to maintain it and mow Mom's lawn once in a fecking blue moon! My own mower needs a carb rebuild, or I would've brought it over. Dad's rolling in his urn.

Of course it rained so I couldn't mow until today, the grass half a foot tall... Whinge over. Sorry.

Lawn is all mowed, BTW. Took me back to being a kid; and it worked so well I might just use it more often. No batteries to run-down, won't run out of gas and no annoying droning noise...
