What does everyone do for a living?

Electronics engineer by day, electronics engineer by night. After a stressful day of designing circuits, I like to unwind by going home and designing circuits.

My resume is weird though, and prior positions include such gems as theater musician, cruise ship musician, translator, and foreign relations officer (in that order).

I haven’t messed with the AG stuff at all but I setup and train on siteworks, GCS900, earthworks and I used to do SCS900. Are you doing lasers or GPS? I do 95% GPS but also have done lasers and total stations. Primarily on bulldozers, graders and compactors but have done it one dual engine scrapers also.

I managed the grade control for an airport paving job once but that was really stressful and I don’t think I would want to do it again.
GPS. The base station is an AgGPS 442 and the display is a FMX/FM 1000.

I work on vehicles/large tractors all day then come home and work on my own projects lol.

We know the Dean of Surgery at a medical school and a local dentist who are both extremely gifted guitarists
My experience has been that people of every category have diverse interests
This. That’s why I’m glad this thread exists – it’s all too easy to see someone in their profession and assume that that profession defines them or is all of “who they are”. I find it very cool to see people from all walks of life professionally united in this particular hobby, especially especially when it’s a hobby that you might not necessarily associate with something that person would do if you only knew them in their professional life – or vice versa.

Speaking for myself, I’ve always loved music and playing music – the law is what I chose do to make a living, but it didn’t change who I was or the things I loved. Hell, I look back at my high school band and I know for a fact that several of them – perhaps all – still enjoy playing music just like they did when we were in high school, even though one is now an insurance adjuster, another is a marketing professional, yet another is in medical sales, and the last (lead singer/guitarist) was actually acting Director of the FBI (yes, the one who got fired by Trump after Comey).

Folks ask me all the time "When are you going to take a break from work??" ...

OK, no work tonight, just some good old fashioned "Me" time doing what I enjoy most... playing with schematics and circuit layouts.

Well shit, that didn't go as planned.

IKR? My best version of this job is if I can think up the design and do the layouts but make someone else do the building and testing. Then I could just call myself "The Iterrator". Cause of all the mistakes I made, of course.

and the last (lead singer/guitarist) was actually acting Deputy Director of the FBI
Very cool, I remember reading an article about him in the Washington Post that talked about his love of music and former band days!

Your comments are fantastic, well said!
It's like what our mothers probably told us all, you just can't judge a book from it's cover.
It's never wise to underestimate or pigeonhole anyone.

I'm a Project Manager for a custom Architectural Millwork company... We create commercial architectural spaces ... It's only fun after a project is turned over and finished.. Our shop does all the custom woodwork, we design and draw the space and I buy out all the metal fab, upholstery, decorative stone work and decorative glass...

1. Sooooo many typos in my original message. Fixed. I do all my best proofreading after I hit "Post reply".

2. For fun - here are two pics. Pardon the quality; I snapped a copy of the physical picture using my phone. Pardon the attire, it was 1985/1986. I'm the one playing the natural Strat, and Andrew McCabe is playing the white Strat.

I was a mixed practice vet tech for the past 5 years, mainly dealt with surgery and critical care, but I recently took a job in communications and broadcast after my daughter was born. My side gig is running live sound for concerts, weddings, and funerals at a moderately sized venue.

I also grow tomatoes during the summer. A lot of tomatoes. I don't make much doing it, especially when you factor in labor, but people go nuts for them. I would like to be able to scale up to year-round market production someday.

My father was a trumpet player/ high school band director before he went back to Law School. He always displayed his master's in music in his office rather than the law degree. That Andrew McCabe detail is bonkers btw.

Your strat > McCabe's strat

Mongolian, just about the least practical business language to be fluent in. Translated full time for a while then freelance while going to school. My wife still translates and I help out from time to time, I'm a native english speaker that speaks fluent Mongolian, she's a native Mongolian that speaks fluent english, so we're a great team
