Technically the tolerance band is supposed to be spaced further away from all of the others, and it seems like either it, or the first digit is supposed to be wider than the others. I never can remember...

that’s *supposed* to be the case, but probably like 5% of the time the spacing and thicknesses are all over the place and certainly not fitting the normal pattern. Unfortunately it seems to happen most often where it’s reads as one semi-common value one way, and a different semi-common value the other.

Sometimes I can't tell the difference with a 30x microscope. :ROFLMAO:

They know how to really mangle them when it counts.

Every now and then I come across one that defies all logic. The value doesn't in any way match the color bands.

I test all resistors anyway, just to make sure. While I've never found one that's wildly out of spec, the "1% tolerance" thing is bollocks.

Gold (± 5%) would be more accurate and would have the additional benefit of making the rest of the code much easier to parse.

Speaking of resistors.... Any of y'all know of (1/2w film; 1/4w carmon comp sized) black resistors? Ik some carbon comps are black, but those seem hard to track down and especially expensive ($2-3 per, instead of typical canon comp prices). Only others I've found are 10w, so of course way too large. IK, mojo & aesthetics bullcrap, its stupid, blah blah... I just want pretty looking black resistors for board I'll be building with exposed internals. don't want to have to break out the spray paint 😂
And now I'm hunting for black resistors just because they'll look cool FFS

Tone is in the resistor's colour scheme. The black ones are tonally superior. The lack of pigment means the electrons travel faster, bringing your toanz to the amp more powerfully.

Those are the resistors I found earlier. Daaaaaamn they look cool but Jeeeez they're massive

Yeah, to be clear, earlier in the thread I wasn't laughing at Andare's or anyone else's optical issues,
just at the obsessive compulsive repetitive checking of resistor values that I share.
(further to optical issues: I have my own, related to depth perception)

Yeah, the big black wire wounds are all I could find when I was looking, but I think that may just be because nobody in their right mind looks for resistors by color.
Geeze, now I need a bunch of black resistors for my None More Black build (I've already got an all red build planned)
the black resistors are for my planned NMB build too. Funny you should say an all red build, because that’s also something I have planned, with a PCB set aside for it, when I eventually restock on WIMAs and also splurge for Dale resistors.

Just got my Electric Druid boards and relevant bits n bobs in. 4 Knob Flange, Experimental Multi-Flange, and the FilterFX, with a few extra StompLFOs to play around withView attachment 32448
Filterfx is a great project/pedal. Only wish is that the waveform selector was a rotary. Really like having the tactile snap to know when I am in a new waveform. Just ordered the digidelay w/ chipset to offset the shipping of the stomplfos for the Mama Flanger

Rad to hear you like it. I don't think the waveform pot will annoy me too much, as I've been rocking a Ring Thing since they dropped, and it's waveform control is set up the same.

I was considering the DigiDelay, but I don't like delay enough to justify building another so soon, so decided against it. Now if it had a reverse mode.... 🤤

You can wire it up as a rotary offboard. If you use a deeper enclosure and long leg pots.
