What's your favorite guitar that you own?

For so many years, this was my white whale. I was able to score one from a buddy, and it’s everything I want out of a Strat! The look and feel, the playability, and the sound.. [chef’s kiss] She’s about 8 years old now and wearing nicely.

Presenting, the Eric Johnson Sig:

That's a wish list guitar there. Soft-v and rosewood is something I yearn for. How's the V on the neck?

I don't one favorite. I have four. One electric - a modified '78 Fender Strat: adjusted radius, Schecter tapped pickup assembly, NOS Arp hex pickup & an onboard (under the pick guard) driver circuit . . . .

And two acoustics. An '88 Alvarez K Yairi DY-58DCB (9-string) . . .

A 2023 Taylor 914CE 6-string . . . .

And a custom, hand-built 2008 (genuine Brazilian Rosewood) Breedlove 6-string . . . .

The Strat was the least expensive at $499 in Jan '79. The acoustics were ludicrously costly, but well worth it. Each is distinct and I love 'em all.

I only own one electric and one acoustic, and the acoustic one is way too new to warrant favorite status just yet. So by default it's my Heritage H-204DD:

I've changed out the bridge and tailpiece recently, and have a new stacked humbucker coming to replace the side by side JB Jr. that I've just never really bonded with.

"Soft" is an appropriate descriptor. It's very comfortable with its 12” radius! After going through a partscaster-building craze a few years ago, I've found it to be a Goldilocks carve for my tastes. The modern C is much thinner (almost too thin), and the deep C on the AO series was too clunky.

EDIT: I like it so much that when I saw someone selling a partscaster with a maple EJ neck, I had to pounce.

My number one is my 2005 SG Standard Natural Burst with a big fat 50's neck.Alnico3 61 rhythm, and Super 57 treble for the pickups. I've requested that it be burned on the pile with me when I go.

I have two true sweethearts in the guitar world. Yamaha RGX-TT (Ty Tabor) and a Godin classical. Spent a good many years looking for both. Both are bone stock but the Godin had a lot of damage to the neck mounting screws and needed a bit of TLC. Both play like a dream.

Is that Dick Dale's signature on that small amp in the background?

hmmm.... 30 guitars.... I don't even think I can pick a favorite type.

I probably play the 78 American Deluxe swamp ash tele with lollar vintage pickups natural finish white pickguard, and the martin d28 the most....

Although the Fake Martin D45 sounds *better* than my $3000 D28...., I haven't been playing it much as it is in need of a setup and I've been too busy to drive to my luthier's house.... Has a couple frets that need to be seated, and the bridge setup is too low for my tastes.

The Fartin D45....

I think my favorite guitar these days is my Novo Serus J. I got it a little before the pandemic (maybe early 2019?) when the waitlist was probably less than a year. I had been to their Nashville showroom and I knew I really wanted one of these. The Mastery bridge and P90s combo I had tried sounded very nice and had this “spongy” or maybe “bouncy” feeling when playing it that felt really good.

So a few months later I ordered my own custom model. Pine body, roasted maple neck, ebony fretboard (no fret markers). Thick neck (the one they usually put on the Serus T) because I have very large hands and 3 P90s because I thought I would use more combinations. In reality I spend 95% of the time on the neck pickup, with some forays into multiple pickup combinations (neck and bridge is great) and sometimes just the middle. I rarely play on the bridge anymore unless I’m using a vibe in front and a fuzz or heavy overdrive (which happens rarely).

I’m not gonna lie, it took me a bit to bond with this guitar and I think part of the reason was that the wood needed to settle and the resonance really open up. But once I bonded with it, it quickly became my favorite guitar to play. The neck is effortless to me, smooth and with low action. The bridge is the most stable tremolo bridge I’ve ever played, I can’t get it to go out of tune. The neck pickup has just a bit of compression that gives a fat attack that I can control via picking strength which is very useful for bebop phrasing (a la Pat Martino I guess). I’ve been really enjoying playing solo lines with a clean tone and the Boss Dimension C, or maybe one channel of the Gladio before it.

Edit: the S500 in the picture also gets a lot of play time. I love me a good strat and that's a great one. The Yamaha is also great to keep around when I don't have time to plug in.

Gretsch VS '53 Duojet. In this pic it has the stock T-Armond in the neck position but now it has Filter'tron Classics in Dearmond cases in both positions, so both pickups look like the one in the bridge here.

It's pretty much hollow so is lightweight. The neck is rounded and just the right size. It plays as well as any guitar I've had and sounds like the guitar i've been chasing all my life! It has the twang of a Tele with the body of a Les Paul. It's just glorious. It's beautifully made too - flawless and perfectly detailed. Oh, it has an aluminium Tru-arc bridge on it now too. I have a couple of guitars which cost more but this is "my" guitar. I still have my previous fave, a Gretsch 6120 SSLVO - the big orange Setzer style hollow body. It sounds very similar to the Duojet and i have played many, many gigs on it. But the Jet is even better, which surprised me.
