What's your favorite reverb build?

I'm a fan of the Chasm Reverb. It's the only one I've done and it was a build for a friend, but I noodled with it a bunch before sending it off and really enjoyed it. I did it on vero but there's a PCB available too.

This thread became timely since the reverbs in both of our practice room amps are now broken... So I am looking for a bread and butter reverb. Has anyone compared the Rub-a-dub and Gravitation? Would you consider Rub-a-dub to have more of a spring vibe and Gravitation more plate/room?

I've made a Sproing on vero and it's a great one-knob spring reverb. I'm going to keep it on my board because my amp doesn't have a spring tank and this does a convincing enough job of emulating one. Also, there's something surprisingly comforting in having just one knob on a pedal! On the other end of things, I have a Radium Springs that I built as well in the hopes of getting an even better spring sound. I'll say that the spring reverb does sound quite nice, but I actually like the reverb on the Sproing more. There are some other issues I have with the Radium Springs, but I'll save that for another occasion.

I've also done a couple of Reverberation Machines (one on vero, one on perf) and I hate to say it but I find them to be really unusable. It's such a bummer because I love what I hear in other folks' demos and some of my favorite guitarists (e.g. Buck Meek, Adam Brisbin) have them on their boards. My experience was that the sweeps of the gain and volume pots are just way too "steep" if that makes any sense.

I was going to see Buck Meek live around the same time in the Boston area but wound up not being able to go. I still really regret missing that performance. 😭
I bought the ticket for Jolie Holland. I didn't know Buck Meek before that show, but I'm a fan now.

I didn't know who Adam Brisbin was until maybe last fall? Funny enough, I only happened to discover him because I was looking up information about the Reverberation Machine on reddit and then I saw someone mention his name alongside Buck Meek. Someone else mentioned him playing some extraordinary guitar parts with Katie Von Schleiker and linked this performance at Paste Studio from six years ago. If you haven't seen this yet, I highly recommend it—his guitar playing is absolutely nuts.

I haven't ventured into DYI pedal reverbs or delays, mainly because some of my amps have phenomenal (tuned) tank reverb, or I use an EHX Oceans 11 and an EHX Holy Grail, both which are affordable and bring on the wet. For recordings, I just use modeling plugins.

Whenever someone asks me about making them a reverb. I say find a used rv-6 not going to be a whole lot cheaper and the rv-6 is going to blow it out of the water for everything ive tried. Ive got a surfy bear clone board i need to put together. But most everything ive tried fv-1 based or belton is like paradox said.. their team of engineers is going to win. Sproing deluxe is probably my favorite so far. But still by the time youre done youre 2/3rds of the way to a used rv6 and youve got 1/10th of the pedal.

All that said my fender 75 from the dark ages of vintage fenders has about the most amazing spring for me and if i want reverb i just use that. Tube driven amp spring 👍👍👍
Where’s the pcb from? (The surfy bear clone)

Fix the amp reverb?

Valhalla DSP
I auditioned a couple of Valhalla plugins and they were solid and would probably crack the wallet for them, if I was doing reverb-lush recordings. I do more organic recordings and sometimes very dry recordings (listen to Yes 'Fragile' for an example), so the stock Presonus Studio One reverbs can be dialed in with some patience.

My nephew recommended that to me a while ago and since I just got my MOTU interface fixed up I finally got around to trying it, along with their other free ones. It's crazy good, for sure.
The dark matter preset has to be the best shimmer reverb ever. Set up a stereo chain and put that on the bus. Ambient sound scape noodling fun for hours.

That was exactly my impression, great for ambient stuff. Time to break out the bow for my electric upright bass, I reckon. As far as plugins I've been mainly into convolution verbs for the last several years, the one that comes with the latest version of N-track seems especially good so far.
