Why do you post a 'Build Report'?

I think there are many reasons why we show off our handiwork to others. What are your reasons for showing off?

For me, I like to show others who would actually appreciate the work put into it, regardless of how good or bad it is. If I were to show a finished pedal to a random person, they'll probably ask "what's a guitar pedal?" I also view it as a way to document my journey down this rabbit hole. Granted my production has slowed down tremendously in the past year or so, but my time has been mostly focused on actually playing/practicing than tone chasing. IMO, you'll never find the perfect sound but you'll get close. A lot of my older builds I don't really use except once in a while when I get all nostalgic.

I'm also guilty of posting just for a "look what I made". There's a sense of pride in our accomplishments and we'd love for others to reciprocate.

Some of you post just to see how many 'likes' you'll get. I think we're all guilty of that at some point.

My wife appreciates my builds or pretends to convincingly, but doesn't understand the differences other than size(haha) and parts count, or why I need so many pedals that are all fuzz.
I still get excited about every single pedal I build, but there have been enough now that my wife no longer feels the need to hide her lack of enthusiasm.

I like looking at the build reports because there’s a bunch of creative people with interesting ideas here. I have borrowed/stolen some of those to my own benefit.

The reason I post, not counting ego-centric validation-seeking, is maybe someone will see some issue I overcame, or some idea I tried. A way to pay it forward.

Early on I posted each build, and I got some good advice. But I don’t feel the desire to write reports for stock builds anymore, unless it seems like no one has covered that pedal yet.

Because anything that pisses off the IAIGF crew is a win, mostly. Gut shots? That's a big nope. 🦄 🌈 :poop:

But seriously, trading ideas with other like minded people is pretty much the only good reason for me to even spend time online any more.

I do/did because way back when, someone was complaining about seeing more troubleshooting and not enough build reports. At first I was like, meh, that’s not what I’m here for, I build for me and me alone, don’t need the validation or the criticism, but then it just became part of the ritual. My guts are clean, but even at their best my aesthetics are weak sauce and I have never given a f*ck. I am def sliding back into the I don’t really care to put it out there these days. It is cool to see reports on circuits/boards I am not aware of, then I can just decide that I don’t care to pursue said build, usually.
