Your best and worst pedal hot takes? 🔥

-Wiring in not that hard, lots of people just refuse to get better at it because it's not a UV print
-EHX has only made a few really GOOD pedals, most are terrible and mid at best
-Some of your favorite pedals are quite possibly based on a Boss pedal that you openly admit to hating
-Not every pedal needs a tube in it
-Mike Einziger is the only person to use a Ring Mod tastefully
-Amps are the most important piece of gear in your signal chain
-It's not cool to ask for a sound clip if you are never going to provide one yourself
-Being greedy with coupon codes and giveaways is selfish and unflattering
-The future of pedals is digital, the limits of analog have pretty much been reached
-The diy pedal hobby feels stagnant

Fair point.
I'm guilty of that one.

I'm self conscious about my musicianship, don't have a good recording setup, I'm intimidated by the skill level of those of you who do post demos, Blah Blah Blah.

I'm probably still not going to produce any full fledged demos. "Sound clip" though... No reason I can't be doing that.

Thanks to those of you who are posting sounds!

Who is hating on Boss? Other than the Metal Zone I guess... Is there other Boss stuff people hate on?

I think each one of those is going to need it's own separate post. 😁

I don't consider myself as talented by any stretch of the imagination, but I know that someone will find what ever sound clip I put out helpful in some context. A lot of people will feel that they aren't a great player, a lack of time, with a lack of technical knowledge or lack of access to great gear and will have a less than stellar sound clip. The reality is, that's the majority of people out there, so they will find it useful. I'm building less so I want to focus more on demos that are showing a pedal in context of other instruments, and I'm not making excuses because it actually doesn't take as much time as I anticipated.

lots of people shit on Boss for lots of reasons. I remember not that long ago reading that someone was loving the Walrus Julia but saying that they hated the Boss CE-2🤡

Most is an important word there.
Aww… thanks for the ultra subtle compliment… (at least that’s how I’m planning on taking it)

I’m much deeper than neck deep in the AI art mania/hype/gold rush. Way more on my professional life than in my personal art.

It can truly make a mess.

Holy crap, the "work" I've seen in some BOUTIQUE pedals is sometimes shocking.

-EHX has only made a few really GOOD pedals, most are terrible and mid at best
This one shouldn't even be controversial, EHX is mostly known for a handful of original pedals that have been cloned and modded ad nauseum, whacky shit that ranges from fun to terrible and basically flat-out clones that also range from pretty good to "should have just gotten the Chinese clone for half the price".

-Some of your favorite pedals are quite possibly based on a Boss pedal that you openly admit to hating
Boss pedals are full of awesome ideas, just sometimes Boss is doing more "engineering" than making stuff sound actually good and sometimes putting some extra features or making minor adjustments can make a Boss circuit go from "it's alright" or "meh" to "this is a really cool pedal!" (which is possibly while people who dislike the CE-2 also have a hard-on for Julia... and also because guitarists are suckers for marketing and pretty graphics).

-Not every pedal needs a tube in it
Arguably NO pedal NEEDS a tube in it.

-Amps are the most important piece of gear in your signal chain
Yes, but also speakers, but also depends.

-The future of pedals is digital, the limits of analog have pretty much been reached
Agree to disagree here. Digital has been the future since like 20-30 years ago and still people will get tube amps with 5 fuzzes, 3 YATSes, a Univibe clone and a 400$ analog delay instead of a Line 6 Helix because there are still things that digital gear can't quite match and I'd argue that's not even corksniffing.

-The diy pedal hobby feels stagnant
It IS stagnant because 99% of pedals that get traced are Fuzz/OD/Distortion, of which like 80% are basically the same 10 or so circuits with minor modifications or maybe not even that. So many times I check the build docs of some obscure boutique pedal here on PPCB only to discover that something is just yet another TS, Muff, Timmy, Fuzz Face, Rat, Crunchbox, Zendrive... Not telling the boutique brands to "go and clone something else for a change" because that also doesn't lead to anything more interesting, but there's plenty of room to explore in the realm of less popular pedals. And even then, of course just painting by the numbers will get stagnant. If you want to do more, go ahead and design some circuits, even if it is just mashing gain stage of pedal A together with gain stage of pedal B. Maybe it's cool, maybe it isn't. There's also plenty of lesser known DIY community circuits to mess around with.

I say post a sound clip anyways!! I record all my clips on my phone (and it probably shows :ROFLMAO: ). I love hearing other people's clips because more often than not it gives me an insight into how someone else would use the pedal, and generally that usage is different than how I would apply it. Obviously this isn't always the case, but I think if nothing else pedal demos can give us all a different perspective than what we would think to do on our own.
