Your best and worst pedal hot takes? šŸ”„

I record all my clips on my phone (and it probably shows :ROFLMAO:
Your clips are the shit. And they got me hipped to one of my favorite pedals. Keep ā€˜em coming! I’ll get my act together eventually.

This whole thing is going off the rails.

Hurry up and say something mean!

Fair point.
I'm guilty of that one.

I'm self conscious about my musicianship, don't have a good recording setup, I'm intimidated by the skill level of those of you who do post demos, Blah Blah Blah.

I'm probably still not going to produce any full fledged demos. "Sound clip" though... No reason I can't be doing that.

Thanks to those of you who are posting sounds!
Dude have you seen my early videos? They look like I am being held hostage. I used to think the same way, ā€œwho is going to even watch thisā€ but it helps other builders and that is the cats ass to me

I have! I don’t know if I saw the first one, but I’ve seen a bunch of em. I’ve seen your filming, editing, and sound capture game all get progressively better too. Seems like you were always a good player though. The playing is the only part I really get hung up about.

I’m not even a terrible player! I can make plenty of cool sounds. I just don’t play in front of/ with other people very often and I’m irrationally shy about it. Pretty sure y’all aren’t about to roast my sound clips.

You nerds can barely get through a few pages of a mean hot takes thread before it devolves into compliments and encouragement.

I actively TRY to make it harder and even THEN can't seem to screw it up anymore. :)
It looks awesome but I wouldn't want to have to repair one. Imagine having to replace a switch.

You shouldn't own any pedals until you know all the basic modes on guitar and can name the corresponding note of every fret. This is my equivalent of "I walked a mile to school everyday."

Which I also did.
Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, Locrian. And Phrygian Dominant
…. I still suck… but pedals have made my suck more palatable …. so there is that.

Haha, got me. "Name" but also "can play" in any key. Phrygian Dominant gets a lot of extra credit though! Actually, I better check that I still remember all of these. I haven't played much lately.

You know one major mode you technically know them all… now learning how to effectively use them that’s a whole other game, I still have yet to figure out.

I know all the modes and all that jawn (I have a degree in music), and I’ve never used it. Practicing it, however, linked my flingers to my brain compartments with the notes…so now I thinks of F# on the A string, and my flinger goes there all by itself…

Ain't that a sad truth. I really haven't seen much on this threat that was really that controversial. Seems like most agree on most things. Only a couple of these posts have evoked the angry emoji -. (Sorry if I pissed off any guitarists who think they are bass players -- but in all fairness, I'm a bass player who plays guitar, and i am by no means a guitar player).

Hands down the most fun to practice. But I struggle trying to use it in a composition.
assuming are you trying it in a drop tuning? (i would be lost if i tried it standard tuning)

IMO once you figure out how to adapt power chords w/ (the appropriate) minor/major 3rds to the phrygian dominant scale, it makes a lot more sense and becomes more applicable to compose riffs.

i.e. almost everything i write is in drop C, with the key being C phrygian dominant, and then the best part is you have this totally related minor key (F minor) that you can flip flop into and make it your base, instead of being stuck on C all the time (if that makes any sense)..

EDIT (this explains it better):
