Now we know why the KoT takes so long to build...

...It's those pesky unobtanium 1uF electrolytics...

Am I reading this correctly, that Mike is buying components in bulk from eBay and surprised that they aren't legit?

And 1uF electrolytics? What's the deal? Have those ever been out of stock anywhere?

"The counterfeit Rubycon capacitors had to be pulled from 100 unshipped King Of Tone boards, just days after announcing that AnalogMan had cleared KoT back-orders up to the start of 2018."

So wait, 100 units "cleared back-orders up to the start of 2018"?.... Realistically we're talking two capacitors each unit, so 200 capacitors? And how long did this set us back?

This could have been resolved in an afternoon.... seriously.

What a doofus. I don’t understand how this guy is running an actual business.

Also, why can’t he redesign his board so the pots don’t have to activate their go-go-gadget arms? And do sideways ICs produce a more balanced tone?

I think it's all bullshit to keep customers who have no idea what a 1uf capacitor is, enthralled in the mystique of the KOT, bet he didn't post on instagram when they switched from fairy dust and unicorn diodes!

I see a bunch of tilted ICs and a mix of carbon film and carbon comp resistors. What's the logic here?

Most importantly, what is so magical about this pedal that people are willing to wait 5 years for it?

Well before I'd built a bunch of pedals and tested things for myself I genuinely agonised over whether builder A had a more accurate Klon than builder B. Magic pedal dust is real when you don't understand anything about parts.

Here’s the thing though: The KoT is very reasonably priced and you don’t have fork over any money to be on the waitlist.

In short, HIS price for it has stayed stable, HE doesn’t hype any of the parts he uses for it, and it’s free to be on the list.

A lot of people project things onto his stuff that aren’t there or that don’t originate directly from him.

Fulltone did not build his brand on vintage components, Analogman did. Fulltone was the first of many: take an old circuit, make it a little new, sell pedals. Most “boutique” companies have been using that formula ever since. He acts like he invented the concept of pedals, though…or as if he is the greatest genius since Einstein to walk the face of the earth…

Analogman is a dime a dozen on TGP: he genuinely believes in the “magic”…even though most know that the “magic” is most in the eye of the beholder…

Some people believe Elvis is still alive but if they are nice people and aren't harming anyone by doing so, then so be it.

I'm not an Analog Man evangelist but he is a nice guy, his prices are reasonable and if be believes wacky shit about components, I don't hear him shouting it from the rooftops like ALL the newer fuzz builders with their lists of date codes and brand names of EVERY NOS component in their builds.

I have a lot of respect for Analogman. He definitely knows those circuits. He just believes that only he can make them beat. He’s a perfectionist/control freak. Lots of people are. At least he’s not out there telling us how thankful we should be for his company/genius…

There is an infinity of distance between being good at building a guitar pedal and running a business selling guitar pedals. Analogmike seems like an extremely above board guy who is very good at building pedals and running a business selling pedals.

I love how this turned into a thread simping over a guy who specializes in selling pedals with mojo components making posts about buying counterfeit mojo parts on eBay.

There's been no simping in this thread?

He didn’t get them from eBay.
Oh I see he said "from a large distributor"
The Guitar article left that out from the quote, which made it sound like eBay.

Hmm, I wonder which large distributor? Could be Aliexpress for all we know.

I don't mean to argue, as I have no dog in this fight. From the article, it is hard to say he does not use ebay to source components.

From the article and everyone's posts it sounds like he has a huge backlog of angry customers. One thought is he may be using this article as a vehicle to lay blame elsewhere and buy hinmself some goodwill and time.

I saw the TGP mentioned. They love hanging out builders to dry for long wait times. Some deserve it, some don't.

On his fb post it says “us distributors”
