What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

61 Concert in for service. Must have sat for awhile as mold has formed on the cloth wire and plenty of oxidation. But hey, this is 6 years older than myself. Sharing these photos cause this is yesteryear, and not many exist anymore. Many carbon resistors drifted beyond 20%, filter caps bulging etc. But she is in wonderful condition and a joy to work on. Got one of the slightly modified Divided Octaves ready to be boxed... But, then I also built another Mootron, and I'm debating boxing them together

Also, considering one of the Phase II variants, but if I go that route, I'll have to get a bigger box
If you care to share, what sort of mods are you implementing on the Octave Divider?

I've been tinkering with this circuit in my mind, on/off since fall of 2017. Some of my ideas for it:

- C1 — replace completely with a simple boost.
- Dry Kill Sw on AUX bypass

- "MIX" broke out to Wet & Dry respectively
- "GREEN RINGER" oct-up switchable to stay on when “BASS ONLY” footswitch is activated, maybe
- Increase GR output by messing with R31, R8 (the latter is 22k, increase to 100k or 220k for more bass vol)...
- Meat Box on the Aux OUT
- MORE TROUBLE:
- An old TB thread with some interesting ideas:

On this one so far, I've
  • Increased C3 to 220p for a bit of high end roll off at the input
  • Increased R18 to 10k to lower the frequency of the lpf going into the GR from ~1khz to ~480hz
  • D2 and 3 are 1N5817
  • R16 and 17 have been swapped for 1k and 100k, respectively for a louder Bass Only signal- now it's slightly louder than bypass

I am considering breaking the mixing portion out into three separate volume controls, or giving the GR it's own volume pot and adding a master volume

EDIT- Curious about the C1 to boost idea. IC1 is already boosting the input, and can be tweaked

Thanks for sharing those mods!

The C1 to boost is ... a carry-over from when I knew next to nothing, and now that I know nothing at all — that is I have no idea what I was thinking ... might have been just a conceit in view of the theme and name I was to give this thing. I've had it for years, from when I first started building and I remember pouring over the schematic for hours trying to understand it and where I could break it to insert a mod.

Looking more closely at my old notes, I do see mention of increasing gain at IC1 via R3 and monkeying with R4 as well. Probably C1-to-boost was to get more signal to the Ringer, and as mentioned to fit with a thematic idea. To fit everything in, all the mods, I really should consider a bigger box.

Here's another muddled thought: The Bass-only footswitch could be a 2PDT, but they give you a 3PDT and that leaves one pole to do something, switch something up somehow, at the same time. Maybe like re-routing the AUX OUT to hit the Meat Box first. Better yet, use that extra pole to increase R8 to offset the volume drop when engaging bass-only mode. I see mention in my notes of R9 and R16, too, but to increase volume you'd need to lower their values...

My old notes are a MESS! I need to revamp them and cut out the old crap that isn't going to work and correct the other old crap that might work and maybe build it closer to stock with less pie-in-the-sky mods...

Finally, got the 3D printer to make a solid PedalPCB drill template!

Neat! I'm also new to the 3D printer game! I found one in the scrap pile at my local transfer station and dragged it home thinking I was going to salvage parts off it, but I ended up getting it running. Is that template file available somewhere to download?

I had a plan to get the printer to run as a Pen Plotter and rig it up to do lettering and graphics on pedal enclosures, but I haven't worked that out yet.
