I don't think him releasing a Germanium version is any kind of "Oh shit I fucked up on the original" move on his part. Lots of companies and pedals have both a silicon or germanium version (or LED for that matter). Having options for people to pick and choose from, at their discretion, doesn't feel shady or like backtracking at all to me.I don't think he made a wise decision releasing this Germanium version!
He has to deal with his decision for back then & now for the changes made.
Is the Deluxe next?
You don’t appreciate his videos? That’s cool.Why not use his own tools against him while we're at it![]()

My take on any YAK has been rather reflexive of the hype: build it wrong on purpose and let tone reign. My favorite recent set is the combo from the exact scenario he outlines for the D+ modification (which I didn't much care for on the D+, interestingly)
GND -->|--D9E-->|--5817
GND 5817--|<--D9E--|<--
although my hasty chicken scratch has it
GND -->|--D9E-->|--5817
GND D9E--|<--5817--|<--
but I don't want to breadboard it again to find out…
It is rather strange to see marketing wank coming from people respected in a community.
Why does he show us a shot with the cover off, but doesn't show us any components?This chap claims that Wampler has used the same Germanium diodes that Bill Finnegan used in the Klon, Bold Statement!

IDK maybe I'm judging him too harshly, but I was more agreeing with you. Maybe I misunderstoodI was poking fun at both the product launch and the YAK hype, but I may have crossed a few wires to get there. Oh well, let's move on past my cringe.

Well, I just received a letter from Wampler Pedals telling me because of Andertons Video, when they arrived at work & turned their computers on, they sold out of all their Tumnus Gemanium stock!The whole thing is ridiculous. And even more cringey when Andertons get hold of it and tout the use of germanium transistors in it.
It's just a dirt pedal which can sound nice sometimes. I've built a few and never really found much use for them. I've used all manner of diodes and they all sound much the same. I actually liked the BAT41s I used in one of them. If you're using it as a clean boost then the diodes are irrelevant aren't they? And if you crank it nobody except the player will hear any difference.
The best sounding Klon I've heard is the one Keeley built into the D+M Drive. But it still lacks a bit of low end and low string clarity. I like my home-brew ODs far more.
