Just about everything’s half off at MadBean

Hello, everyone, this is your action news reporter
With all the news that is news across the Internet
On the scene at the PedalPCB Forum
There seems to have been some disturbance here
Pardon me, sir, did you see what happened?

No, at first I didn't.
I happened to notice the sale on MadBean before I saw this thread,
and it was tooooo late,
I'd already 'Bean' to the modulation section.
Even after I'd seen this thread, I hollered to myself "Don't click in there, Feral!"
but it was tooooo late,
I'd already snagged the missing 1590A in my collection...

Oyyyyy vvvai, they call it the Mad. Beeeeaaannnnn
Interesting tweaks to circuits already seen
If there's a gap in your PPCB offerings
fill that hole with Mad Bean half-offings
and click "add" and "purchase" on your screen

With the VFE projects on sale, without MCU included, I feel like I missed a business opportunity by not ordering a bunch more than the group buy called for.

Ha, I had that same thought, for you. Except that you can make the updated versions for less than $5 each.
But I love the old-school VFE layouts with the 9mm mini-pots, so I might still grab a couple...

The old VFE projects will eventually have the MCU included again and probably remain cheap. But, they will be gradually replaced with the newer SPS format projects in 2024. I have a ton of partially populated SPS switching boards form Peter. Just been lagging on getting it launched.

Awesome.

I think six knobs are too many for my brain. But the small, 9mm pots mixed in created the illusion that there were only 3 knobs so I could handle it. :)

So much so that I built the SPS version of the Woodchipper w/3 smaller knobs to harken back to the pre-SPS glory days.
(It didn't quite achieve the effect.)

Aw man that looks fanfreqntastic!

Thanks for the inspiration. I've got a couple Woodchippers coming, and I suppose they're SPS, in which case I'll give them a similar knob-treatment:

Two sizes of 1510 Davies-clones, if they'll fit (might have to go all small 1510).

Hey thanks man!
The Davies 1510 would create an even more dramatic effect.

In retrospect, I should've used 15mm knobs or larger for the large knobs (rather than the 12.5mm diameter knob pictured.)

I meant I should have gotten extra MCUs to turn around and sell just them to anybody wanting Bean's current VFE PCB offerings. Unless you program your own, the minimum fee for programming by Digikey is $60.

I am not in any way trying to compete on PCB sales. In fact, the official word from Peter is that I can't be in the PCB sales business without paying his monthly fee.

Only if the larger knobs come in the same orangey-copper colour!

I know, I wish! The Davies 1510 comes in orange, but they'd overlap my text.

bLMS have a 15mm “mocha” knob, but it doesn't pop quite like orange.

I think this is one I have yet to build.

OMG, it's SO GOOD on bass. It's nice on guitar, but it's fantastic on bass.

Oh, gotcha. I ordered a handful of extra pre-programmed MCUs if anyone needs a couple.

I paid Peter's monthly fee for 2 months, hoping to sell a couple of Woodchippers to help cover my parts costs. But when the enclosures came in from Tayda, I discovered the “fuzz” and “bottom” knobs switched positions in the SPS version, but the docs still showed the pre-SPS placement. So, I wasted money on 2 unusable enclosures.

I wrote to Peter to let him know the SPS documentation was wrong, and he updated it in the latest version of the motherlode. So if you're using the motherlode files from before August 2023, the knobs are wrong. Refer to my picture above for the correct knob layout.

I'll resubscribe as a licensed builder if I start selling them, but at the moment, I've lost interest. I'm ready to move on to other builds.

That's what I'm talkin' 'bout, Erik's post, smaller 1510 [EDIT: 1611] styley.

I got some of the Mocha's for a specific build, Dirt Dauber, they look great. Waiting on missing parts, hopefully can complete that build soon.

There was a time when the Woodchipper blew up on TalkBass, lotsa people were getting them, it was de rigeur. I've wanted one for a long time.
