I play a lot of upright so that's what the buffer is for mainly. I still am not sure what overdrive I want to go with but the pork loin gets a lot of love on talk bass so I'm going to give it a try.
Cdb klon is excellent with my setup, though I'm betting you're not playing a 50's Kay with a Krivo humbucker. GCI N.E.W. Bass OD should also be on your radar if it isn't already. Quite versatile, unsurprisingly since it's a knobfest.

Ooh ooh, nobody else I know cares about this shit, so check it out: my 13-year-old “wants” to play violin. He just doesn’t want to play violin if you know what I mean. I get it, he sounds awful. The 7th grade orchestra performances have been pretty monstrous—that weird juxtaposition of pain and humor. It’s like aural slapstick. I keep trying to tell him that if he wants to sound any good, he has to spend a lot of time sounding bad.

So I got a couple piezo-to-1/4” mics; I spit shined a dusty old acoustic/electric amp in the basement (replaced a dud pot, glued down the floppy gasket)…now I want to put together some kind of pt2399 circuit to mix with the built in reverb and kinda smear everything out. Hopefully make the grating and groaning a little more bearable until he can start to develop a more consistent tone.

I’m not a delay guy at all so if anyone reading this has any cool ideas… I know there’s a couple staples, but I’m entertaining the idea of something that can also get a little kooky just in case he catches inspiration enough to fiddle around with it some. I imagine I probably will! Pretty psyched about it.

I'm extremely excited about this tiny tube amp I've just rebuilt. Yesterday I tested out the nex 12ax7 preamp stage and it WORKS like a dream! She's a ripper! My first tube amp and I totally feel like a Jedi for building it myself without a schematic. Invaluable help was given here as well as some serious encouragement.
I'm also excited about the danelectro I'm about to rebuild but it should be way easier with the actual schematic.
Best forum ever!
Happy holidays and let's have a great toob '24!

The rest are in a big plastic bin stacked in cardboard drink trays. Many are just "what would happen if I..." others are built from drawings I've seen here or around the web. Most need work :ROFLMAO:

You know what?
You can re-use those breadboards.
The components can come out and be re-used and placed in alternate spots.
If you hit on something you like, you can even transfer the idea/circuit to a more permanent breadboard-like board...

As I was sayin' . . . . I'm kinda excited about getting into 'all things wah' and ent thru my boxes of 'wah stuff'. Wow! I wasn't aware I actually have 5 brand new empty wah shell kits. On the far left is a fully operational Cry Baby GCB95 and next to it, one that needs repair. Over a dozen inductors and about ½ dozen custom inductors (with a few custom winds from Joe Gagan). There's a Roto-Vibe board that needs attention, a complete set of guts from a Fuzz-Wah, several different gears & special wah-taper pots, a new & populated Dunlop Cry Baby board ready to drop-in, A Harbinger 2.0 to build out, enough PCBs and special dual-gang 10K pots to do a few Parapedal Wahs, an Ernie Ball volume pedal to convert and an old working Morley wah to futz with. So, yeah, I'ma be busy.

If you ever want to get rid of the Morley shell, PM me!

I'm excited to ... up my graphics game in the coming year.
I'll be experimenting with various methods of adorning the external surfaces of pedal-enclosures, and ...

It's gonna be FUGLY before it gets ugly, but at some point down the road, finally maybe hopefully some pedals I think are presentable?

I taught myself how to use DIYLC, so maybe I can learn some graphics-program basics and ... 🤞

....and they come in many sizes! The one you pictured even has power rails. Most...well some of my breadboards make it to proto or vero and even to a box.

This truly is the best DIY group in the known universe. The people here are nice and supportive, a marked difference from many other audio tech forums.

My 2024 focus is on: less pedal building and more music creation. (Near sacrilege, I know! Don't hate me.) It will take strong willpower to get out of old habits of accumulating parts, buying guitars I can't afford, and making yet another OD or fuzz that sounds mostly like pedals I've already built.

My band hasn't been super keen on my latest self-indulgent, poorly written, and sappy songs. But I reconnected with an old friend from the 90s and learned we've both been writing songs over the years. We agreed to each contribute 4 songs to a recording project for a mini-album of 8 songs in 2024, whether the world is clamoring for it or not.

It's been a great 2023. This community has been a bright spot in my life.

Go for it dude. I've been playing every day since we moved back home and it's been wonderful. I'd gotten super rusty and had really lost a lot of my musical vocabulary over the previous few years. The good news is it all comes back pretty quick and I'm playing better than I have in years, you will too if you put the effort in.

Stick with it dude and write the stuff you want to write. Nothing will put you off playing the guitar like playing stuff other people want and ignoring the stuff you want to do. It's also good to have multiple musical adventures going at once. I've got two very different projects on the go these days with two different groups of people and if I hit a road block on a track I'm writing for one group I just switch to working on a track for the other one.

Also, documenting my projects from 2023 with sound demos. I built many pedals in 2023 but barely posted about most of them.

The audio demos from Michael and owlexifry and guardians and DGWVI and jtex and harry and pauleo and jjjimi and onebad peccary, and the jessenator, and paradox, and countless others have shown me what I want to build better than an overproduced youtube demo ever could. Heck, the only reason I know I need a Blender is because of paulcalypse's bitching sound demos.

Yet another great thing about this group.

Hey, thanks for this comment. “Multiple musical adventures” will open my creative faucet. I like that thinking.
