Considering the pedal is doing a dual clean signal blend, By having about the same threshold the pedal should behave the same. Worst case, add the parallel resistor and it will do the trick (image I found online

He has to deal with his decision for back then & now for the changes made.

Where did you find that response curve? I'm curious about whether or not there was a resistor in series with the signal before it hit the diodes.

Some of them were fine but some of them had a crazy high forward voltage for germanium.

I got some that looked like that from DiYStompboxes and a couple were just bad. A few were in the .3 range most were like .47-.53
