i thought about that, even have a bag full of 1uF mlccs, but idk, i just dont like em.
when the footprint's too small and i have no choice, well, i have no choice.
but here it was like, am i gonna be a bitch, or am i gonna use the full footprint..

I have an SL-P150 that looks like the single disc version of that. Got it off eBay as I'm trying to piece back together my dad's stereo setup he had when I was a kid. Most of it has been lost to foolish thrift store donations (not by me). I should pop it open and make sure none of the caps look suspicious.
I'm not sure I'll ever complete the quest because the receiver was a Sansui G-9700 and those go for quite a bit now.
The equipment from that era is gorgeous though.

Nice! I have a matching Technics RS-D190W double cassette deck to go along with the cd player. The amp is a silver SU-V8. It’s probably my favorite piece because it’s silver and yeah… gorgeous bit of kit from that era.
Those G-9700’s are absolute gems but, like you said, super pricey nowadays.

Don't know what iron you're running but for T18, I enjoy the Hakko T18-S7 tip I picked up last year.
It's like a fine tip with a small 60° chisel. It took a little getting used to but it's proven very flexible. It still has a fine enough tip to do small/thin pads(if angled correctly) but can also handle grounds on the back of guitar pots when the chisel is laid flat.
For components, I usually position the chisel vertical, parallel with the component leg but not touching and heat the pad with the chisel tip. Once I start applying solder, I'll lean the chisel into the component leg.this allows a very quick solder with minimal time on the component itself. The larger surface area of the chisel heats the leg quickly.
Also, stick to name brand tips. No chineseium. I ordered a few for the Hakko and all weighed around a third of the genuine Hakko tip.
Onto my workbench.
I polished a turd for real. Don't have a final photo but here's a progress photo I sent about halfway through.
Buddy bought a $199 new Jackson 7 string. The fret ends could've cut a wheel of cheese, the "humbuckers" were a single wire and "shield" that I'm pretty sure were epoxy potted single coils. The steel wool shavings I sprinkled on them certainly looked so.
So, what's to do. Full fret job, second hand Bare Knuckle Juggernaut in the bridge and a second hand SD Invader in the neck. So, about $240 in used pups in a $200 hunk of "wood" (everyone loves rims on their Mercury Mystique). I wanted to rewire the whole thing.
Now, at no point did I say this was wise or a good idea. He's a single dad in need of a new guitar. Bought the 7 string a few weeks back and the bridge pups with his tax return
I actually bought the invader for him. So, it plays better now. Not great but okay. I told him to stick a dollar in a jar every few days and when he gets around 500 up, well rip the pups out of this and install them in the gew guitar.
I had to reform the mounting legs to get them to work in this guitar though so that should be another misadventure. But he likes it, it sounds pretty good for ~$400 and will probably shatter into 17 pieces of he ever drops it. Now that that's done, maybe I can finish some noise boxes up.

Testing SOT-23 adapter boards for the DCA75 that rip off the one on the Bside version of the atmega transistor tester. Works great without pressure applied.
2.54mm headers are kind of a pain with the test clips, especially with the actual adapter being small they can throw off the balance. Probably gonna revise to slightly bigger and a different header pitch / connection method

*sigh* I wish LOL. I have a design, but I just can't justify any more UV prints until I start moving pedals I've already done. Hopefully will get some answers/a plan before summer hits.
FX-951 I found open-box on eBay for a song. I have a T15-BCF2 sitting around, but it's chonky. Good for doing monojack terminals. I have a second one (not sure if it's genuine) just for "not soldering" tasks," which, yeah, not the best, but needs must sometimes. Mostly minor PLA rework for my fitment enclosures.
I like the D12 (my workhorse) well enough. Don't think I could part with $45 for an R20, which is a neat, slotted tip. Hefty price tag, but the concept is nice. This one looks decent; not as steep of an angle as that one you mentioned.
