What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Apparently this amp was sent to frommel for the mods to be done.

One one the switchint power resistors they changed. And lifted from board. This on was actually still good the other resistor had a leg that was not connected all. Appeared to have broke at the solder joint

Input impedance, coupling capacitor rolloffs, and then maybe retuning the bass and mid response curves. I’m planning on posting a few different configs on Github once I’m satisfied with them, but if you PM me with some specifics on your use cases I can shoot you some schematics. I already have a pretty big library of LTspice models built up so it goes quickly as long as it’s just component value subs.

I ordered all of the parts for the Frommel mod and did them myself on my Hot Rod Deluxe. Had another issue I couldn't figure out, so took it to a certified Fender amp tech in my area. I've had the amp for over 20+ years and not even once has that amp left my side. The tech swore up and down that he must have at some point worked on my amp, since it had alot of the mods he does. He couldn't fathom in the least bit that I was the one that did the mods. I quit fighting him on it because it was so stupid. Some battles are just pointless to try to win

I thought it was funny the issue with the amp was literally one the mod was supposed to fix/prevent but their solder job was so bad

They don’t send out parts to just anyone. 🤣 I did those mods on mine also. Sounds a lot better. I also put a 12ay in V1 and a 12at in V3. Little easier to control the volume. I did change the master volume to an A taper while I was in there.
 
100% on changing the tubes for sure! Did the exact same thing. You could get away with just changing the tubes which makes a massive world a difference, but I'm a tinkerer and couldn't just stop there.

Went from debating about getting a new amp, to spending under $100 and an hr of my time.

I did just get a bonus at work, so I'm heavily eyeing up a Laney FRFR cab and a Line 6 Helix Stomp. Don't tell my Sweetwater sales rep 😉

Just a sample of my PPCB backlog. Since my build process starts with the graphics before all else, the biggest obstacle to my productivity is being a bit burned out on art, between being an art student and trying to come up with a bunch of cool enclosure designs. Just been struggling to come up with ideas that i like for many of the boards I have, so I decided I might outsource a wee bit:
I’ve organized the PPCB boards in my backlog by whether they fit one of the standard Tayda predrill templates (I’m temporarily super sick of my drill press column not having a geared table lift) and now I can provide a list of possible circuits to my girlfriend, and let her come up with some neat graphics since she misses doing art stuff ever since she graduated.
I might reach out to more of my art school friends to see if they’d want to design an enclosure for a circuit too as part of a little print exchange type thing— maybe they design an enclosure graphic, and I’ll in turn do a 4x5 linocut of whatever they want.

I’m sick of planning builds instead of just building them. I think this is maybe a fun way to go about it. In the end, I might even end up with a complete rig worth of lovely collaborative pedal builds. I think this idea could also be super fun for a future forum activity, but I’ll propose that idea later down the line ;)

I gave a drilled enclosure to an artist friend who wanted to hand paint an enclosure for me. That was like 2 years ago. It's awkward to nudge a pal to "do that one favor you said you were enthused to do" more than a few times.

JJ 12ax7 in V1, TAD 12ax7/a in V2&V3 AT7 in V4 (fx loop). And balanced JJ ax7 in V5 (PI)

As far as I can tell though, the toggle was a clipping switch even in the standard version, so the Classic/Modern/Scooped description is a bit odd. Maybe they've revised the circuit at some point over the years...

There are a few component value differences compared to the Disturbance so that could be why you prefer that one.

Better late than never, after a brief test of the Disturbance and Disarray side by side, they sound identical to me. The component value differences surely could make them a little different, but nothing that I would instantly notice over component tolerances and tiny differences in pot position. Maybe with a longer tweak session I could hear something, but I'm aiming to sell them both so I don't really care that much.

Toner seemed to lift after some time. Took a long time to etch and it's not that deep. ~30 minutes. Not sure if my etchant is weak or if some kind of oxide layer developed between sanding/transferring and 2 days later when I etched it.
Whatever. It'll house a PCB. Shoot for better next time.
