That is the first I've ever heard of Hendrix naming them. Where'd you hear that.I figured it was dudes copying off BB King and Jimi Hendrix.
And copying an older generation of guitarists that blatantly was never my jam.

Reminds me of when I asked this girl where her name came from, and she told me the general practictioner of their parents made it up when they paid him a visit. They hadn't figured out a good female name and the doc needed to put SOMETHING down. Goes alongside the story of one of my dad's brothers who went to the municipal office to register his son, forgot about the name he and his wife came up with, and made one up at the spot.Nah. They were named when I bought em. It's like a tattoo... I never could figure out what i'd like to keep around for more than a few weeks so I never got one. I only named my kid because it was necessary.
Once heard someone say they give ships female names because ships need constant maintainance, just like women...I follow Bricksnbeatles naming system. Naming guitars is a bit like calling your motorcycle "her". I love my bike but it's an it. I guess the whole calling things by female names comes from sailors calling their ship "her". There were no other women around.
The other expression which I find a bit cringey is when players call the collection of guitars an arsenal. "I have another axe in my quiver" (which is rather mixing metaphors). Unless you're Keith Richards a guitar is not a weapon. Or at least I don't see it as one. You can make your own mind up as to whether my guitars are weapons only after you hear me play.
"He really got Gladys to hand out a thrashing tonight"
I forget where I saw it but, the best dad joke ever is... the dad that had a boy on the way to the hospital and named him Carson.Reminds me of when I asked this girl where her name came from, and she told me the general practictioner of their parents made it up when they paid him a visit. Pretty sure I'd be in the hospital for a good long time after I did something like that ha!forgot about the name he and his wife came up with, and made one up at the spot.![]()
It probably comes down to how much one wants to bang their guitar. It really opens things up if you're naming an instrument that you only like as friends.I never thought of this until this question. And now I can't stop thinking about it. Would a female guitar player do this as well? Would a gay guitar player choose the name of its own gender? And is their some relation with the aging of guitars? Do we name our guitars with the used look? Relics? And how about fillers and botox?
Are those Lucilles Sisterwives? How many guitars are considered a harem?
And do we name the boxes we stomp on? Or just the always on's?
are you a bass player, too?I never thought of this until this question. And now I can't stop thinking about it. Would a female guitar player do this as well? And a bass can't ever be a she. It's a 34" dong!

Well I guess who doesn’t?Haven't "named" it per se. But I do like to pull out my Johnson from time to time and play with it.

Nope, it’s required, not voluntary…maybe?I also named both my children, does that count?
