Do you name your guitars and if so, what?

I think having a title while kind of funny isn't as bad. I'd rather someone say, "this is my guitar, Thunderfoot," than "this is Patricia" lol.
For sure. “This is the Emerald Dazzler™. This is the Almighty Asskicker™, etc.” That's more palatable than Bertha and Anita.

To date, my basses are still named: The G&L, the Ibanez, and the Fender. I lack the inspiration to name them.

How are G&L basses? I love my Comanche and have considered their Tstyle guitar but I've never put my hands on a bass by them. Specifically how it holds up compared to a fender p or fender J I guess is what I'm interested in knowing.

I had a tribute L2000 for awhile and it was killer. Heavy as hell and I could have done without all the switching mumbo jumbo but it was still impeccable haha. MFD pickups are some of the best. I liked it as much as any P bass!

In my 20’s, my main guitar was a Strat I named Blanche, after my grandmother who had recently passed. When I hosted an open mic, Blanche got passed around a lot.
A number of years later I acquired a classical, that I named Rose, because it’s red. And the fretboard is rosewood. Rose is a little soft spoken, with the nylon strings.
Later I acquired an early 60’s Harmony arch top, that has lived a long life, lots of dings and cracks, many stories to tell. That one is named Sophia.
My main squeeze is my SG. Named Dorothy. It looked rather plain until I put a Bigsby on it.
I don’t call them by name usually. It’s more of an inside joke with my girlfriend. “Hey, I’m going out with Dorothy tonight, don’t wait up.”
Blanche, Rose, and Sophia have been neglected for the last 5 years. But I’m still thankful for their friendship, and all the travels down the road and back again.

How are G&L basses?

Solid. They're kinda like P-basses without the dead spots. They're kinda like Stingrays in terms of massive fullness.
I agree with Nostradoomus about the switching system. I don’t use the coil taps or the active EQ. I set it in passive mode, leave out the 9v battery, and just use the volume knob.

If you get a chance to play one in person, you should see how you like it

I've always thought it was really cringey when guys would give their guitars women's names. This is Roberta, this is Evelyn, and this is Donna, etc etc. I could never really put my finger on why, but man it sounds so weird to me. Like you wouldn't be even a little embarassed if a woman was around and you introduced her to Donna the strat?? :poop:

I just say my mustang, my jazzmaster, or whatever. The only difference is my SGs because I have two. I have my brown SG and my red SG. Let me get my red one out, or I've been playing my brown SG a lot lately, etc.

One day I'll have a brown P bass with a huge neck and I might call it Chocolate Thunder

Chocolate Thunder from Down Under is a great bass name.
It's also the registered trade name of a desert served at Outback Steakhouse, so they might come after you if you hit the big time with that name.

That is the first I've ever heard of Hendrix naming them. Where'd you hear that.
I dunno. I could be confusing him with Eric Clapton or George Harrison, or someone else who gave their Strat a name that Fender later tried to capitalize on.

Sorry, I blame Fender's newsletter for overhyping some guitar called the Izabella. It was clearly cynical marketing hype aimed at people who use guitars primarily to decorate their walls. I tuned out of that nonsense long ago.

I originally named my hand-build Les Paul 'Lester'", but it didn't catch on and has been referred to as '#1' for a long time. Other guitars I built are 'Special,' (does Tele, humbucker and Strat settings well - used to repair amps) and 'Lady' (had a girl painted on it in the 80's). My 2016 Gibson Firebird is 'Marylyn,' as she has a knothole on the upper body bought, which resembles Marylyn Monroe's trademark mole.

The rest are referred to by their year, brand and model.

Desert sounds like I would need a drink of water afterwards 😉
