What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

Man those prices seem too good to be true. Have you done any tests comparing those 72’s to a ti. I have some 72’s i know to be fake bought before i knew better and ill selectively use those in circuits where i dont think the impact will be as great.
I haven't had a chance to test yet. The prices are really good and I'm sure it's possible these are counterfeit, but others on the forum have reported good results with their stuff so I pulled the trigger. And I think this company is a wing of JLCPCB that sells components.

I'll try some A/B tests for a few of the components with my next build. I've kept these separated from Tayda/Stompboxparts ICs in my storage.

Big mail day.

Half ish of my byoc clone order
5F1 chassis--see below
5F1 + 5E3 power xfmrs
Missing some iron due to running out of stock.

So, I have half the big bits to build different amps. Was haphazardly packagee with minimal brown paper only and the chassis, well...

Missing some labels at this point. I guess, luckily, it's hard to mixup.
No sense in complaining about a fire sale though. -pre-reliced I guess.

Utility stuff from AliExpress
Some .3/.5mm thick washers for pots and switches and some lock washers, switches for the Huntington Audio oscillator PCB.

And last but certainly not least, as this genuinely made me smile, as much as it hurts to do so today, and was a very welcomed surprise in what's been a rough last 7-10 days, a surprise blue box from the ever awesome @jessenator

Adapter boards(need those TO-8 to DIP-8s!, IYKYK) and a pair of Wurli 12AX7s!!! I think I'll set those aside for the 5xx build/s. Also a smd C(ool)A(udio)13700 to further test my nerve and some MPF102s that I suspect belong in the below(as does the 13700).

And 3 of his recent layouts!
The Chicagoclops is one of myth and mystery from the MBP forums that he dove head first into. I provided a little advise and a lot of distraction via PM over this one and can't wait to bork it! Gonna clear a square foot of space on the bench tonight and get started on it. Also a MBP sparkplug clone and his modded Sardine Tin.
I'm not the best at building up others layouts in short order but I'm gonna make a real effort to KO 2/3 here. :)
How layouts have consistently gotten cleaner and if you haven't oggled at his artwork and design, you're missing out. My man's got skills.

Anyway.
TLDR, nuts and bolts, poorly packaged amp bits for cheap and some sweet motivation and gifts from an awesome dude.
Off to FAQ up some smd ICs

Gotta keep the brownie bowl separate from the bread bowl.
Otherwise he'll never bake bread fast enough for those neighbors.

That's a great idea I had not thought of.

Honestly.

I said "smokin'" 'cause ... nevermind. A bowl that big and 'Unit1 could hot-box his entire house, possibly the whole neighbourhood if the bowl was truly full to begin with.

Need a small-pool to badda-boom-badda-bing-badda-bong it...

Bonus, you can jump in to cool off. Then again, maybe the water would be warm from the heat-exchange from the bowl.
Hot-tub! Pointer Sisters say "Jump In"...

I buy lots of TI TL072 from LCSC and they are the real deal. Never got a bad IC from them.

Bunch of different things coming in the door.

These AC125s and AC126s arrived from Thailand:

I need to clean the corrosion or whatever it is off. A scotch-brite pad works okish. Do you think contact cleaner would help? Would it damage them? I suppose I’ll test on a few.

I was just saying how much I hated drilling etched pcbs the other day. I got a wild hair (some transfers on Effects Layouts got me hot), and ordered up the required stuff to have a go. The Dremel press is like a 1000x better than the one from 25 years ago when I last etched boards haha:

This tube order from Eurotubes has been sitting a while:
IMG_5363.jpeg

They are for a Rosamp SLO30 build I ordered right when they opened it up again (August 31st). They shipped it on September 11th. It fell off the truck on the 15th. I waited a week before asking him to check on it. He responded that he needed to decide what to do. Nothing yet haha. I guess I’ll email again on Monday (two weeks since last package scan). It’s becoming a bummer though:

I do have other things to keep me busy obviously haha, but I am really looking to building my first amp in 25 years.

Only a DIYer (including myself) would spend more than a PCB costs to make the PCB himself.

Not the sexiest New Gear Day but I haven't been happy with any of my spring trigger capos in years. I used a shubb in the 90s without issue and don't know why it took so long to come back after trying so many different types. View attachment 82792
It just makes sense that the tension on a Capo should be adjustable!

This keeps in tune better than any capo I've tried since 1967 when I started playing. I keep an extra backup in my string changing kit! It's also adjustable. edited: I do NOT like their strings, but the capo is awesome.

You know I was looking at the 20 pounds of weed that is 2022 and before and have finally decided to hot box the neighborhood. I can't give the stuff away fast enough. I'm just gonna build a biggo honkin bon fire with some old pallets, wait for the embers to form and toss that shit on top. lmao....

Like you know the BIG chewy boxes? It's five of those....

This represents fewer than six plants a year. which is the limit if you don't have an RX. But my strain grows to 15 feet tall....

This was like 2 months ago, they're all buds now. 30 days to go!

A Scotch-Brite pad and isopropyl alcohol is my go-to for corroded germanium transistor leads. Some light scrubbing and they solder right in without any trouble. If you end up measuring gain/leakage, I'd love to see the results!

Pretty poor from the handful I measured tonight.
I didn't think out it until after buying but wonder if they're all whiskered.
That being said, one of the two boxes I opened don't look nearly as bad as the ones on the listings.
Some decent hfes l, up to 160, but tons of leakage.
Can't win em all.

I first got a shubb ukulele capo to use with my tenor guitar, and I immediately preferred the style to any of the other capos I’ve tried. It’s a perfect design— it just works without fuss

I tried the scotch brite, but xx steel wool works much better, and faster. Polishes by removing only the scum and oxide. And those leads are super reflective, finely polished.
