New Pedal Releases

I don't think it's a rule, more of a convention. I got confused when I first went to the USA (in 1988!) and switches went up for on. Everywhere. Then I thought about the Fender amps I had, and sure enough they go up for on. My Marshall had switches which went down to go on.

Then I found that in the US they don't get to the main course at a restaurant because their entrees are too big. When we went to pay we asked for the bill and they said they'd get me the check, which meant they were going to pay me? And when I asked for dollar notes in the change they thought I wanted them to write me a note - no, ok, I want dollar bills. To pay the bill with... EVERYthing is backwards. The away team is mentioned first on the scoreboard when we ALWAYS say the home team first. Don't get me started on how they write the date.

Lights on the floor? Of course. You can't put lights in a ceiling. The drop bears will break them.

Yeah, but in what world does ‘up = off, down = on’ make sense?

...

Yeaaaahhh.

In addition to Down Under and Kiwi-land... That's how it is in many parts of Asia as well.

For example: former-British-Colony-now-Communist-Strangle-hold Hong Kong is also UP=OFF, DOWN=ON.

This will possibly overload you, but many places also put the lightswitch for the light inside a room OUTSIDE THE ROOM! 🙀
Now THAT is clearly insane.

@HamishR — Don't forget "Take-away" and "To go" at restaurants ... if you use the wrong term in the wrong country you'll just get a blank stare from the clerk/cashier/server who doesn't bother to try to figure out what you've just said.

NEWS FLASH FOR THE F&B INDUSTRY:
TAKE-AWAY = TO GO

"OMFG, they mean the same thing?! But but bu... they're different!"

Ha, patting the wall of an unknown bathroom in the dark like an idiot, only to learn that the switch is outside. Happens!
I've had them both ways in Finland, inside and outside. Frankly I think inside makes a lot more sense, but outside is great for pranking your significant other.

When I lived in Scotland it was a 'carry oot'

This one came out a few months ago, I picked one up because I'm a Muse fanboi. I was whelmed. It does the Supermassive Black Hole sound pretty well and very little else. I ended up flipping it.
When I used to build Devi Evers we made a similar thing. The circuit was a proto mountainking megalith.

At least in a bathroom it makes some kinda sense. I remember visiting the US and being shocked (not literally) that there were power sockets and switches in the bathroom?!
In the UK we keep mains voltage and water separate.

In the Netherlands switches are in the bathroom.
There used to be a shaving power socket but no one uses a powered shaver anymore.
It was a 1: 1 transformer socket.
