Jlcpcb and tariffs

Rumor mill is saying there will be some scaling back on the 145% soon. BigBox CEOs are giving the admin a riot act.

That actually makes sense.

“Dude, what the fuck are you doing?! Same team!”

:D

I have a BIG flanger pre-order coming up so I’ll see how that large pick and place order fares.

Important Notice: Logistics Policy Updates due to the US’s tariff on China

Apr 24, 2025

US Tariff Timeline:

  • February 4, 2025: U.S. President Donald Trump imposed 10% tariffs on all Chinese imports
  • March 3, 2025: The US levied an additional 10% tariff on China, leading to a total of 20% tariffs
  • April 5, 2025: The US's 10% reciprocal tariff went into effect and will impose 34% reciprocal tariffs on April 9
  • April 9, 2025: The US increased the reciprocal tariffs from 34% to 84%
  • April 10, 2025: The US again raised the reciprocal tariffs on Chinese goods to 125%
Taking into account the additional tariff and reciprocal tariffs, the total amounts to 145%.

Due to the fluctuating customs duty rate (145%~175%), we will collect taxes from customers in advance based on the highest rate of 175%. After receiving the tax bill from the logistics provider, any excess will be refunded, and any shortfall will be charged accordingly.
The following adjustments have been made:

Effective from 20:20 on April 22nd(GMT+8), B2C customers placing orders destined for the United States are required to choose DDP when selecting the shipping method and prepay 175% of the order value as taxes.

Just as an addendum to the above post:

Going to partial SMD has changed things considerably for me.

Let’s say I do pay $10 for board on something like my new single board Electric Mistress flanger.

The only through hole components on there are the power supply electrolytics, regulators, some chips and the diodes.

For that application and many others, $10 each, while DEFINITELY more than I’ve been paying (and more than I want to continue to pay), is still worthwhile considering I might be closer to $15-$20 using a US fab house.

It’s all how you frame it in the context of a specific application and it also says nothing about some of the other consequences of the tariffs themselves.

But I’ll have to live with it for now.

I ordered boards last week from PCBWay which haven't arrived yet:

Of course, found a few missing components and tried to order an updated version of the same board today and this is what the checkout looks like.

Imagine the hit to small businesses across the country... murca.

In Europe we have Euro circuits. I hope I did the calculation right but just one board is 135 euro. No tarrifs, just the board. I dont know how this tarrifs are effecting pricing for Europe though.
