Quick question regarding 3pdt switches and wiring. I will use numbers based on the below layout.

1 4 7
2 5 8
3 6 9

Using logic,

Input to circuit leg 1
Input jack leg 2
Jumper leg 3 to leg 9
Led leg 4
Ground leg 5
Jumper leg 6 to 1???????
Output from circuit leg 7
Output jack leg 8

What is the purpose of the jumper wire linking legs 1 to 6?

But when bypassed doesn't the ground in leg 5 account for this? Not quite sure what you mean when you say input is grounded...

Leg 5 is grounding the LED for the most part so it switches on and off.

Position one is bypass, leaving lug 1 floating open while the effect is off can introduce noise especially in high gain pedals as the board still has voltage running through it no matter what the switch does. Grounding that input signal in bypass shuts it up.
